Plus: Faulty driveshafts impacting Kia EV6, Niro EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 6; headlight issue for Lamborghini Huracan; and more

Amid the latest round of vehicle recalls impacting Mercedes-Benz, more than 20,000 cars across the A-Class, EQA, EQB, CLA and GLB model lines – all produced between 2018 and 2024 – have been called back to the workshop to address a potential power steering fault.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the electrical power steering control unit back-up software may glitch and ultimately cause the wider system to fail, increasing the risk of a crash and thereby serious injury or death.

“Owners of affected vehicles can contact their most convenient Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out as soon as possible, free of charge,” the company said in the recall notice.

Owners of the affected models can check their vehicles’ inclusion in the recall via the VIN list available on the Vehicle Recalls database.

Running concurrently with the power steering recall, a separate notice has been issued for 7429 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS vehicles produced between 2019 and 2022, relating to a manufacturing issue impacting the 48V mild-hybrid system.

According to the recall notice, “the threaded nut securing the 48-volt wiring harness under the driver seat may become loose” and “could result in higher-than-normal electrical resistance within the harness”.

This, in turn, could lead to a possible vehicle fire and pose a serious risk to occupants, other road users and property.

Owners of affected vehicles are asked to contact a Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out as soon as possible, free of charge.

Potentially affected owners can check their vehicle’s inclusion via the VIN list attached to the recall notice.

Kia EV6, Niro EV

On a smaller scale, Kia Australia is recalling 237 examples of the 2023 Kia EV6 and Niro EV to replace a potentially faulty driveshaft.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the driveshaft may break under load,” Kia said via the recall notice.

“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

Owners can check whether their vehicle is impacted by the recall via the VIN list attached to the notice.

Hyundai Australia has issued its own version of the above recall for its related electric cars – specifically, 118 examples of the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.

The details of the driveshaft fault are identical to the Kia recall, coming under a separate recall notice and VIN list for these two models.

Hyundai i30 sedan

Back in the world of internal combustion, 130 examples of the 2023 Hyundai i30 Sedan N Line have been recalled to amend an incorrect software installation.

According to the recall notice, “the ‘fail-safe’ mode may not operate when oil pump faults are detected in the dual-clutch transmission” and could cause the engine to stall or lose power – both dangerous scenarios if that happened while driving.

“Owners of affected vehicles should contact their nearest authorised Hyundai dealership to have the software upgraded, free of charge,” Hyundai said.

Potentially affected owners can check their vehicle’s inclusion via the VIN list attached to the recall notice.

Lamborghini Huracan

Five examples of the 2023-2024 Lamborghini Huracan supercar range – covering Evo, Sterrato, STO and Tecnica models – are under recall, relating to a software issue impacting the headlights.

According to Lamborghini, the Huracan’s high beams may not work as intended and result in reduced visibility at night.

Owners of affected vehicles are being asked to contact their authorised Lamborghini dealer and organise an appointment to have the software updated, free of charge.

A list of affected VINs is attached to the recall notice.

Mercedes-Benz A 200

Eighty-three examples of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz A 200 small car have also been summoned back after being fitted with the wrong fuel consumption label.

Mercedes-Benz says affected owners will receive a replacement label with the correct fuel consumption and emissions information via registered post, with the list of affected vehicles attached to the recall notice.
