Our perpetual fascination with and curiosity about celebrities is a multi-billion dollar industry all onto itself. Folks just can’t seem to get enough of what the rich and famous say, do, or wear. This also includes a deep interest in what they drive apparently, since a car says much about a man or a woman. To that effect, a UK-based car leasing company has compiled a list of the 2000 famous folks in various areas and discovered a number that corresponds to combined average monthly searches for the following a celebrity name followed by “car”, “cars” or “car collection”. The results are rather interesting. Although they are reflective of mostly British tastes, the top 3 most searched for celebrity cars were Americans (well one’s a naturalized citizen).
A Joker, An Engineer, A Tycoon
At the top of the list sits none other than ex-talk show host and gear head extraordinaire, Jay Leno. The denim-shirt wearing funnyman with the most famous chin in the world indeed holds the distinction of the most searched for celebrity as it pertains to cars. His wildly popular tv show, Jay Leno’s Garage has been a sensation since its debut in 2015, and has surely kept the former Tonight Show host relevant and in the public eye. The list goes on to mention that his supercharged 1972 Mercedes Kompressor is Leno’s favorite car, but with a collection like his, how can one even have a favorite?
Men And Their Toys
In second place is the trailblazing madman and ubiquitous founder of Tesla Motors (and SpaceX) Elon Musk. The South African’s happens to drive a Tesla Model S Performance, but has owned (and crashed) a McLaren F1 as well as sending an original Tesla Roadster into space. Third on the list is another billionaire tycoon and one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates. A self-avowed Porsche fanatic, he owns and drives that automotive holy grail, the Porsche 959.
The Top 10
The rest of the top 10 includes Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton who owns a large exotic car collection, Kylie Jenner, Rowan “Mr. Bean” Atkinson, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his Bugatti Chiron, Former Top Gear and current Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson (Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder), singer Justin Bieber and British actress Emma Watson.
