Key Takeaways

  • BMW plans to launch nearly 40 new and refreshed vehicles over the next five years.
  • New EVs will be “outrageous,” but investment in combustion engines will continue, including V8.
  • BMW is evaluating the Mini Aceman EV for potential introduction in the US.

BMW has spent two days in Las Vegas wowing dealers with previews of incoming vehicles and plans, reportedly informing attendees that nearly 40 new and refreshed vehicles will reach the market over the next five years. According to Automotive News, the dealers who were willing to discuss the presentations (under condition of anonymity, of course) were blown away.

“The product is just unreal,” said one dealer. “Companies like Tesla should be shaking in their boots because [BMW’s] electric stuff is outrageous.”

BMW and Rimac are collaborating on advanced EV tech “for selected battery-electric vehicles,” likely meaning the inevitable electric M3. Coupled with attractive new looks previewed by Neue Klasse concepts, BMW’s future EVs will surely be appealing, but not everyone wants an electric car.

Next-Gen X3, X5, And More

The report goes on to say that the fourth-generation G45 BMW X3, expected to debut this year for the 2025 model year, “doesn’t look like a compact SUV anymore,” thanks to a comprehensive styling overhaul. Spy shots indicate an increase in both size and style. The same dealer said that the G65 BMW X5 looks “mean,” describing a new X-shaped headlight assembly design as “probably the coolest thing I’ve seen.”

BMW has given the world the first glimpse of the upcoming iX3 and X3 with the debut of the Vision Neue Klasse X.

The dealers were also shown the refreshed 2 Series Gran Coupe and the updated BMW i7 luxury sedan, but no new details were revealed. That said, one dealer said that they and their colleagues were shown the Mini Aceman EV and “feel good about the product.” If the dealers are being asked their opinions, it may be an indication that BMW HQ is considering selling the Aceman here. Due to its current Chinese construction, this is far from guaranteed.

“There was discussion of where [sales] targets were set and where actual BEV sales are at,” a dealer said. “BMW is not going to [get out ahead] of America’s current appetite for [its] electric cars.”

The V8 Is Not Dead

The report adds that dealers were shown the 2025 BMW M5 Touring, and this is expected to serve as a “buzz” vehicle, which suggests that volume won’t be great. We know that this will be powered by the V8 from the BMW XM, but recent rumors have suggested that non-M SAVs like the X5, X6, and X7 would be losing access to the eight-cylinder, crowning the B58 straight-six as the top option going forward. Happily, this report refutes that claim.

It all depends on what the market looks like as the years go by.

Dealers have reportedly been told BMW “believes in EVs” but will only make changes based on market conditions, not legislative pressure. Thus, they have been told to expect BMW to continue investing in combustion, including in the V8 format. We suspect that means an evolution of existing straight-six and V8 engines, which BMW says are Euro 7 compliant.
