EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) – A 22-year-old man is behind bars for allegedly attempting to steal a car from a General Motors (GM) car lot in Eaton County.

Michigan State Police (MSP) Troopers were called to CN Railroad Auto Distribution Center located off Davis Highway around 4:45 a.m. on April 4. after reports of several unidentified males cutting a fence to gain access to the property and attempting to steal vehicles from the lot.

CN Railroad Auto Distribution Center is an area where new GM vehicles are stored to await transport via train dealerships nationwide.

When a trooper arrived at the scene, they saw a suspect in a white Camaro attempting to leave the lot. The suspect allegedly attempted to pull a U-turn and struck a large dumpster, totaling the car. The suspect then tried to flee the scene on foot and was later caught.

MSP said additional suspects attempted to take two other Camaros but abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot after the trooper arrived. A search was conducted, but the other two suspects got away.

Officials said this investigation is still ongoing, and they are investigating a similar incident that happened on Feb. 27. where eight Cadillacs were taken from the lot.
