Watch as celebrity chef Judy Joo whips up a mouth-watering Korean fried chicken dish – powered only by an electric car.

The Korean chef plugged her fryer into the charging port of a KIA EV6, before preparing the delicious looking, deep-fried chicken bites, using a batter made of cornflour and black peppercorns, and a flavourful brine consisting of lemon juice, leeks, garlic, ginger, and Korean soybean paste, doenjang.

She even used the car to power a hob, in order to cook up a sweet, aromatic gochujang chilli sauce in a saucepan, to drizzle over the snack.

The unique cookery class, which saw Judy team up with South Korean car manufacturer, KIA, came ahead of the East Asian country’s New Year celebrations this weekend.

And KIA also commissioned research of 2,000 Brits, which found that Korean fried chicken is one of the UK’s favourite cultural exports from the nation – with over two-thirds (68%) having tried it.

Other popular Korean culinary delights include kimchi, which has been sampled by 55% of Brits, and bibimbap, a mixed rice dish with meat and veg – which 34% have tasted.

In fact, the research found that a third of those polled are “fascinated” by Korean culture – with 38% saying the country’s bold flavours is what first piqued their interest.

And with 47% having noticed a recent increase in Korean culture, 42% would like to visit the country, and experience it for themselves.
