The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 116,020 Mercedes-Benz vehicles are being recalled because of an enhanced risk of fire thanks to a problem with the ground connection. Documents released by the NHTSA indicate a 48-volt ground connection located under the passenger seat may have come loose during the assembly process.
If a connection is loose, it’s possible that when the high electrical current passes through, it increases the risk of a fire. To correct the issue, dealerships will inspect recalled vehicles and repair the connection if necessary.
The recall impacts the following makes and models of Mercedes-Benz vehicles:
- 2023-2024 GLE350
- 2020-2024 GLE450
- 2020-2023 GLE580
- 2019-2023 GLS450
- 2020-2023 GLS580
- 2021-2023 MAYBACH GLS600
- 2021-2024 AMG GLE53
- 2021-2023 AMG GLS63
- 2021-2024 AMG GLE53 Coupe
- 2021-2024 AMG GLE63 S
- 2021-2024 AMG GLE63 S Coupe
Owners of vehicles impacted by the recall will be notified via letter starting on May 14.
