Key Takeaways

  • Neue Klasse X concept to be revealed on March 21.
  • Expect SUV version of previous Neue Klasse sedan with comfy but button-free cabin focusing on interior space.
  • Vision Neue Klasse X previews upcoming iX3.

BMW has teased the Vision Neue Klasse X for the first time, giving us an initial glimpse of the automaker’s future electric vehicle platform in SUV form. Bound to preview the upcoming next-generation electric BMW X3, the new concept is the next step towards the brand’s push for electrification, scheduled to be fully revealed next week.

Posted on the German marque’s social media channels, the teaser shows the Vision Neue Klasse X’s infotainment screen, which harkens to the minimalist interior of the conceptual Vision Neue Klasse sedan shown in September last year. The new car sticks with bright colors, adopting an orange theme instead of the yellow trimmings on its three-box counterpart.

What Can We Expect From Neue Klasse X?

The “X” in the upcoming concept vehicle’s moniker confirms its classification as an SUV – or SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) in BMW speak – telling us that we’ll finally see the former Neue Klasse sedan in SUV form. Outside, we can expect Neue Klasse X to adopt the previous concept’s futuristic styling, as previously confirmed by the automaker. There’s much left to the imagination as only a camouflaged teaser has been shown.

Like the non-SAV Neue Klasse, the X version will likely have a minimalist, button-free cabin with a massive screen for the next-gen iDrive in the dashboard’s center and a head-up display on the windshield. We expect more cabin space in the Neue Klasse X to be its differentiating factor from the sedan.

The Next-Generation iX3

Although not yet confirmed, the Vision Neue Klasse X will effectively preview the next-generation iX3. Supposedly bearing an internal code NA5 (or NK5), the test mule was initially shown last year and was caught while making its rounds on public roads earlier this year. Internal leaks reveal that it will be available in eDrive40, eDrive50, and M60 variants, with the M60 producing as much as 610 horsepower.

There’s much to be known about the Neue Klasse X and the future of electric BMW SUVs – all of which will be revealed on March 21, 2024, at the BMW Group Annual Press Conference.
