Corvettes for Sale: 2018 Corvette Z06 that Was Previously a GM Show Car is on Bring a Trailer

As the mid-engine C8s started hitting the road four years ago, as a potential buyer, we were hopeful that the downward trend in the price of used C7 Z06s would continue.

Alas, that hasn’t been the case as enthusiasts who prefer the engine in the front of their Corvettes seem to be gobbling up these cars and keeping prices higher than we prefer.

Still, when examples like this lightly-used and heavily loaded 2018 Z06 come onto the market, it’s hard to complain when the current bid on a Bring a Trailer auction is still less than half of the original MSRP.

With three days left in the sale of this Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat Z06, the current bid is $56,000 for a car that left the factory with an MSRP of $107,925. Options include the top-of-the-line $8,495 3LZ Premium Equipment Group that includes luxuries like a sueded microfiber-wrapped upper trim package and custom leather-wrapped instrument panel and doors, along with heated and ventilated seats, Performance Data and Video Recorder, and front curb-view cameras.

On top of that, this car – which began life being used by General Motors as a special event display vehicle before the seller acquired it through a Pennsylvania dealer – has been further optioned with the $7,995 Z07 Ultimate Performance Package that features Brembo ceramic brakes, the $2,995 carbon-flash painted ground effects package, the $1,495 Z06 black aluminum wheels, the $995 carbon fiber interior package with the $395 custom leather yellow stitch, and the $595 yellow brake calipers.

The car has been driven just over 13,000 miles by the seller, who was described in the comments section by a long-time friend and high-end detailer as someone who “takes incredible care of his cars.” After detailing the car recently, the detailer adds this advice: “While I would never encourage anyone to buy a car sight unseen, this car will leave no buyer disappointed upon arrival, especially now that that sticker is off :).” He’s referring to the Jake sticker on the rear bumper that has been removed since the listing photos were taken.

Indeed, the photos seem to indicate a Corvette that’s in almost immaculate condition, with perhaps the only blemish being a small “divot” hard to spot, but the seller said he preferred to leave it as is rather than risk a touch-up that might be far more noticeable.

It’s also worth noting that this car includes a comprehensive “bumper to bumper” extended warranty purchased from the seller’s local dealer that is transferrable to the buyer through February 2028 or 60,000 miles.

As far as the driving experience of the car, the seller explains that he has replaced the stock Michelin PS Cup tires with Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires, making the ride “much softer and quieter” in his opinion. With the Z07 package, some enthusiasts are worried about that ride, but he says on trips, even short ones, he puts the car in “Economy” mode and says the ride “is not harsh at all,” noting that in Track mode is when you can “feel” the suspension “in all its racing glory.” He is also a big fan of the Brembo brakes, which “give you complete confidence that you can stop the car on a dime.”

While the seven-speed manual transmission seems to be popular these days, the seller suggests that anyone interested in this car give the 8-speed automatic paddle shifter a try. “We feel it provides the ‘best of both worlds’ – fun shifting when you want it, and no effort driving in traffic!” he says. “I know it isn’t for everyone, but this car was my first automatic Corvette (I have owned 10) and I love it.”

The seller, by the way, is Cary Thomas, author of “Beltsville Shell: You Are What You Drive.” One person commented that Cary is “as consumed with all things Corvette as anyone you would ever care to meet.”
