Michael Schumacher, the retired seven-time Formula One world titlist, hasn’t been in public for nearly a decade. He suffered major head injuries in a skiing accident in 2013 and was placed into a medically induced coma. But Schumacher’s unmatched career legacy remains, in keen focus via his son Mick, a current F1 competitor.

Among the cars the elder Schumacher drove is a Ferrari F300, Chassis No. 187. It was driven by the German champion in his four victories during his 1998 World Championship season.

Equipped with a 3.0-liter V-10 engine, a maximum engine speed of 17,500 rpm and producing 800 horsepower, the supercar will be among several celebrity vehicles offered for auction in August during Monterey Auto Week.

Like real estate of the rich, famous or infamous, vehicles owned by movie stars, politicians and those who once drove cars for a living, often sell for premium prices.

Monterey Auto Week: Celebrity Cars, Big Money

Celebrity car sales are held at auction throughout the year. Last June at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas, Frank Sinatra’s 1970 Maserati Ghibli sold for $330,000 and a 1966 Ford Mustang GT K-Code Convertible owned by Henry Ford II was also purchased for $330,000.

Some celebrity cars don’t sell well, with recent poor sales performances from a Tesla owned by George Clooney and a Rambler owned by George Romney, former president of American Motors Corporation and former governor of Michigan.
Schumacher’s legacy with the rare Ferrari is unlikely to go under-appreciated.

It’s one of three celebrities’ cars set for the spotlight at three different auctions during this year’s 10-day assortment of new and vintage vehicles, vintage races and rallies, car shows, exhibitions and memorabilia sales on the Monterey Peninsula. The showcase will be held Aug. 21-21.

Vehicles once owned by actors Sean Connery and Paul Walker are also expected to attract high-priced sales.

Monterey Auto Week: Real 007 Aston Martin

The Ferrari Schumacher drove, privately owned since 1999, has remained preserved, unrestored and never altered from its as-raced condition. It will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Auction, Aug. 18-20 at the Monterey Conference Center.

Following its 23-year private ownership, the Ferrari will be available for public sale for the first time. Its estimated value is $6-8 million.

Connery drove Aston Martin sports cars as Agent 007 in many of the long tenure of James Bond movies. But the deceased actor also owned a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 during the last few years of his life.

Connery died in 2020 and his family recently decided to sell the vehicle. Minus the espionage gadgetry of movie lore — ejector seats to machine guns protruding from headlights — Connery’s DB5 is a close relative to the vehicle used in the 1964 movie “Goldfinger.”

Monterey Auto Week: Paul Walker Porsche For Sale

It will be the spotlighted vehicle during the inaugural Broad Arrow Auctions showcase Aug. 18 at the Monterey Jet Center. Its estimated value is $1.4 to $1.8 million.

Walker drove fast cars in “Fast and Furious” movies and in his personal life. He also died in 2013 as a passenger in the crash of a fast car, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT in 2013.

One of Walker’s former personal cars, a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, will be auctioned during the four-day Mecum Auction at Del Monte Golf Course at the Hyatt Regency. The long-standing daytime Classic Car Week auction will begin Aug. 18.

The Mecum Auction website doesn’t list an estimated value for Walker’s former Porsche. But a similar Porsche recently sold for about $600,000. Walker’s former car could attract a $1 million offer.
