Celebrities sure do love riding around in unique vehicles. After all, when you’ve got enough in the bank to buy any car you want, it probably keeps things interesting to modify them into the most outlandish rides ever. That is what many of them do, from pop stars to athletes. Be it NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in his custom rides, or pop-star Will.i.Am in cars he designs and modifies himself, there is no shortage of over-the-top, eccentric rides when it comes to artists and famous personalities. Cars and celebrities are always an interesting combination, with many examples of celebs getting into trouble over their rides as well.

However, we are here to look at strange and whimsical rides that pop stars, athletes, and other celebrities drive around. While there surely are examples of tasteful modifications out there, there are far too many cases where an artist or star went over the top when it came to their rides. That said, take a look at some of the strangest celebrity cars which left people scratching the heads they turned at these rides.

10 Will.i.am’s 1958 Custom Corvette

American rapper Will.i.am has found more than one way to get his creative juices flowing, as he has invested a lot of time in modifying cars and turning them into futuristic projects. His 1959 Chevy Corvette is an example of the same. While it is a Chevy underneath, the car is practically unrecognizable. Customizer to the celebrities, it was West Coast Customs who built this car, which is dubbed the ‘Willvette’.

The ‘Willvette’ has the interior of a C6, but Will.i.am has made things quite futuristic on the inside with a massive touchscreen and custom sound system, and on the outside, there’s an equally big grille to match. The design of this custom Corvette is nothing short of polarizing, and while it’s quite uncertain what the artist was really going for, the one thing that’s for sure is that it is a peculiar ride.

Whether or not what Britney Spears did to her Hummer can be called customization is up for debate. Some might even go so far as to call it a straight-up slaughtering of the SUV. Like many other celebrities of her time, Britney brought home a Hummer too and went overboard with the modifications she made.

The pop star even got into trouble with the law when luxury brand Louis Vuitton slapped her with a $300,000 lawsuit for embroidering their logo on the dashboard of her Hummer and parading it around in the music video for her 2004 single Do Somethin’.

8 Flo Rida’s Gold Wrapped Bugatti

Via WrapChannel

Flo Rida is known for his rap songs, not his taste in cars. He loves the fast life, as Flo Rida shelled out a large amount on getting himself a Bugatti Veyron. However, having one of the fastest and most exclusive cars ever was not enough to satiate Flo Rida’s appetite, as he went ahead and got the then-fastest car in the world wrapped in gold chrome.

So much so that even the rims of Flo Rida’s Bugatti Veyron are made of 24-karat gold. Incidentally, it was Florida-based customizers MetroWrapz who did the design. Flo Rida wanted to set himself apart from the rest by modifying his car and etching it in the history of the most outlandish designs, and the rapper succeeded.

7 Justin Bieber’s Leopard-Printed Audi R8

Here’s a car customization job that can truly be called animalistic. Worldwide pop sensation Justin Bieber has plenty of exotic cars in his collection, and his Audi R8 is one of them. However, while the regular R8 is enough to make any gearhead stop and take notice, Bieber’s German supercar is perhaps even more of a head-turner, considering he has had it wrapped completely in a leopard print.

Justin took what is one of the best-looking high-performance sports cars in history with a timeless design and turned it into this monstrosity of a looker. Sure, the R8 houses a V10 and makes north of 500 horsepower, which makes it a certified animal under the hood, but we’d have much preferred that you’d kept the animalism under the hood itself, Justin.

6 Shaquille O’Neal’s Custom Polaris Slingshot

Shaq Does Love His Three-Wheel-Drives

Legendary basketball player and 4-time NBA champ Shaquille O’Neal has an extensive car collection, and most of his rides are customized. A fan of modified wheels, Shaq got his Polaris Slingshot customized and extended as well, adding two extra seats to the trike.

This is what birthed the ‘Sling-Shaq’, and O’Neal also fitted it with a heavy sound system. The Polaris isn’t even the only trike in Shaq’s garage, as the man also has a Vanderhall Venice Roadster. However, the three-wheeler churns out a mere 180 horsepower, which, with all 7 feet and 320lbs of Shaq, is simply not enough.

5 Will.i.am’s Volkswagen Beetle Bug

Say what you will about Will.i.am’s taste in cars, but it is original. Another collaboration between the American rapper and West Coast Customs, the ‘Bug’ was built from scratch on a 1958 Beetle. It costs even more ridiculous than it looks, at a whopping $900,000.

The drivetrain for the Volkswagen Beetle Bug comes from a Corvette LS3, and, keeping suit with everything Will.i.am does, the cabin is quite futuristic. A single iPad controls every function on the interior, from door operation to climate control settings.

4 The Game’s Leather-Wrapped Ferrari

It is no coincidence that a lot of music stars appear on this list. With a life in the world of music come some quirky choices and tastes. Take rapper The Game, for example. In 2012, while on a trip to France, the rapper bought himself a $200,000 Ferrari. All well and good… except that his Ferrari is completely wrapped in leather.

The Game had always been a fan of cars, and his collection at a time included a Bentley, a Dodge Charger SRT, and a Lamborghini Murcielago, all from 2006. He even added a Range Rover, a Chevy Corvette, and a Can-Am Spyder to his collection, although the Corvette got repossessed after three years. However, the leather Ferrari is the wonkiest ride of all. Boy, that leather wrap must keep the Game warm in there even without the heating, huh?

3 Will.I.Am’s Custom DeLorean DMC

Keeping with his futuristic design choices, Will.i.am built this car by himself. Of course, this Delorean is perhaps the most futuristic car of them all, considering the car has been ‘back to the future’ twice now (wink, wink). Painted all white, there’s a single brake light that covers the rear in Will.i.am’s custom DeLorean, and the only bit of black you see is from the rubber of the tires, the grille, and the exposed bits on the side and bottom of the car.

The car houses a GM LS3 E-Rod V8 unit and its interiors were completely redesigned and re-fitted for maximum comfort and luxury. Moreover, it’s built entirely out of aluminum, making the car fairly light. Apparently, the rapper parted with $700,000 for this build, and while it does look decent and futuristic, no one could have ever fathomed the actual futuristic Alpha5 car from DeLorean. For our money, we’d say the latter looks a lot better, since Will.i.am’s custom ride is one of his more tastefully designed cars, but strange nonetheless.

2 Deadmau5’s Rule-Breaking Ferrari (Purrari)

No one can blame an eclectic music producer like Deadmau5 for wanting to bring home a Ferrari 458 Italia. We’d have even understood a bit of modification to set his ride apart, but for the artist to have customized his Italian Prancing Horse after being inspired by an internet meme? Deadmau5 custom-wrapped his 458 Italia in a sky-blue color, with the internet meme ‘Nyan Cat’ on the car. He even dubbed the car ‘Purrari’.

However, the folks over at Ferrari never took kindly to the design idea, slapping Deadmau5 with a cease and desist letter. After all, the execs in Maranello have strict rules when it comes to modifying their cars. Deadmau5 eventually had to return the car to its original white color.

1 Justin Bieber’s Rolls-Royce ‘Uriel’

West Coast Customs surely churns out cars that are impossible to take your eyes off. Of course, all the while you’re staring at them, you’re still trying to decide if you like what you’re looking at or not. Justin Bieber, inspired by a futuristic concept car design from Rolls-Royce, wanted the same car in his driveway. However, he learned that what he saw was merely a prototype, and not even drivable.

This is where West Coast Customs came in, and Bieber commissioned a car just like the concept for himself. Built on a Rolls-Royce Wraith, this is a one-of-one car. WCC shortened the Wraith by 8 inches and widened it by 12. One really can’t be sure whether this car is tastefully designed or not, considering it is, after all, tampering with a Rolls-Royce Wraith. However, the car, dubbed the ‘Uriel’, is so strange that you simply can’t take your eyes off it.
