2024 BMW 2-Series

2024 BMW 2-Series

Expert Opinion: The 2024 BMW 2-Series is a stunning sport coupe in the luxury segment. BMW offers this two-door luxury car in five various trims and three different powertrain options. The 2-Series comes stacked with all the latest tech and provides gorgeous interior styling options. While the 2024 2-Series brings a lot to the table, some consumers may steer in another direction if safety features and cabin storage are key priorities, as the 2-Series is certainly lacking in these areas.

Pros

  • Great powertrain offering
  • Provides sporty handling
  • One of the most affordable BMWs
Cons

  • Backseat legroom is even less than the 2023 model
  • Only offered as a coupe, no more convertible trims

The 2024 BMW 2-Series is a stunning two-door sports car in the luxury car segment. In BMW’s lineup, the 2-Series is the smallest and most affordable coupe available. BMW offers the 2024 2-Series in six different trims, including the 230i Coupe, 230i xDrive Coupe, M240i Coupe, M240i xDrive Coupe, and the M2 Coupe. In addition, consumers can choose between three different powertrain options when selecting a 2024 2-Series.

The 2-Series proves to be an excellent sports car option among its competitors, providing multiple trim choices, great powertrain options, quality performance, and a second row of seating, which can be hard to come by in the sports car segment. The 2-Series also comes stacked with all the latest and greatest technology on the market today. However, it could use a little work when it comes to safety features.

An important distinction to make for consumers looking to purchase a 2024 2-Series is that it is not the same car as the 2024 2-Series Gran Coupe despite their similar naming structure. Instead, the 2024 2-Series Gran Coupe is a four-door coupe that is a distinctly different vehicle compared to the 2024 2-Series, a flashy two-door sports car.

What’s New For 2024?

BMW offers the 2024 2-Series in five distinct trims, including the 230i Coupe, 230i xDrive Coupe, M240i Coupe, M240i xDrive Coupe, and M2 Coupe. The 2024 model year is a continuation of the second generation, which was just introduced in 2022. In addition, BMW added a massive curved infotainment display center to the model in 2023. Thus, it’s unlikely that any major changes will be introduced for the 2-Series in 2024. However, there are still a ton of highlights to look forward to when it comes to the 2024 BMW 2-Series.

2024 Highlights

  • It features a massive 12.3-inch instrument cluster alongside a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • BMW offers the 2-Series in both core trims and M-Series trims
  • The 2024 2-Series is only available as a coupe; no more convertibles with the second-generation
  • The 230i Coupe, 230i xDrive Coupe, M240i Coupe, and M240i xDrive Coupe all come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual shift modes
  • The M2 Coupe trim comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission
  • There is a wide array of both exterior and interior color options to choose from

The engine, which sports 255 ponies, is paired with an eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission with sport and manual shift modes.

The 230i Coupe has the capability to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.5 seconds. In comparison, the 230i xDrive Coupe can complete the same task in just 5.3 seconds. The 230i Coupe averages about 30 MPG combined, whereas the 230i xDrive Coupe only gets about 28 MPG combined. Both trims have a top speed of 130 MPH.

The most powerful coupe in the 2024 2-Series lineup is the M2 Coupe. Under the hood of the M2 Coupe resides an impressive 3L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine that makes 453 ponies. This is the only coupe in the 2-Series lineup that comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The M2 Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.2 seconds and has the ability to reach a top speed of 155 MPH. This coupe also averages about 19 MPG combined.

  • The BMW App provides 2-Series owners with the ability to check their vehicle status, lock and unlock their car, and use the remote engine start feature directly from their smartphone

As a small two-door sport coupe, the cabin of the 2024 BMW 2-Series isn’t abundant. However, the 2-Series does provide a decent amount of space for a two-door luxury car. Children and smaller adults will likely find the second row of seating adequate with the 32.2 inches of legroom that is provided.

What the 2-Series does lack in space, it more than makes up for it in luxury and style. With a variety of color options and interior materials to choose from, the 2-Series isn’t stingy when it comes to interior style options. 2024 BMW 2-Series Versus Its Competitors

The 2024 BMW 2-Series is a luxury sports coupe that brings a lot to the table. From its multiple trims and powertrain options to its tech stack and luxury interior, the 2024 2-Series is a competitive two-door car in the luxury segment. However, this doesn’t mean that consumers shouldn’t shop around a bit before purchasing a new BMW 2-Series. Two vehicles that consumers may want to test drive alongside the 2-Series include the 2024 Toyota GR Supra and the 2024 Nissan Z.

There’s no denying that both the 2024 BMW 2-Series and the 2024 Toyota GR Supra are stunning two-door sports cars. The two match up pretty squarely when going toe-to-toe too. That should come as no shock either, given that the GR Supra is basically a BMW wrapped in Toyota clothing, so to speak. Toyota actually teamed up with BMW during the development of the Supra. Thus, there are a ton of borrowed features, elements, and similarities between the GR Supra and the 2-Series.

Both sports cars are offered in a variety of trims and powertrain options. In addition, both base trims sport 255 ponies. However, the highest horsepower available on the GR Supra is only 382 ponies compared to the 453 ponies that the M2 Coupe has to offer. Despite the 2-Series offering more power overall, the GR Supra comes out on top when comparing acceleration. The GR Supra has the ability to go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds. It takes the 2-Series 4.1 seconds to complete the same task.

While the two sports cars are pretty even matched, when it comes to practicality, the 2024 2-Series is the clear victor. Despite the BMW’s backseat being a little cramped, it’s certainly more practical than the Toyota’s non-existent second row. Unless a two-seater is the dream, most consumers would be better off opting to go with the 2-Series over the GR Supra. In addition, the 2-Series also offers a more practical starting price at just under $39,000, compared to the GR Supra’s starting price of just under $45,000.

Another powerful sports coupe that gives the 2024 BMW 2-Series a run for its money is the 2024 Nissan Z. Like the 2-Series, the Z is stacked with all the latest tech features and provides a luxurious cabin experience. While the two are pretty evenly matched, both inside and out, the 2-Series once again proves itself to be the more practical sports car.

Like the GR Supra, the 2024 Nissan Z is only a two-seater sports car. The 2024 2-Series just offers consumers a better balance between fun and practicality compared to either the Toyota GR Supra or the Nissan Z. Compared to the Z, the 2-Series is also the more affordable option to get started with, as the starting price on the 2-Series base trim is just under $39,000 while the Z base trim is priced just over $42,000.

Is It Worth Buying The 2024 BMW 2-Series?

There’s no denying that the 2024 BMW 2-Series is a stunning sports car in the luxury segment. The 2-Series offers consumers a wide variety of trim and powertrain choices, alongside gorgeous interior styling and an impressive interior tech stack. The second row of seating in the 2-Series, paired with its affordable starting point in this segment, will undoubtedly help the 2024 2-Series stand out among its competitors. However, for consumers looking for a sports car that comes standard with the most amount of safety features available on the market today, the 2024 2-Series won’t be the best option. Despite this pitfall, the 2-Series still has a lot to offer consumers looking for a sports car in the luxury segment.
