BMW’s upcoming V8 hybrid hyper wagon has been teased again – with a festive body wrap
The 2025 BMW M5 Touring wagon has had Beemer aficionados frothing ever since it was mooted a year ago and now the German car-maker has exposed more of the all-new super wagon.
The latest ‘festive’ video and images continue the Bavarian brand’s M5 information drip-feed ahead of the ‘G91’ BMW M5 wagon’s official reveal for Autumn (March-May) 2024 and while it’s tricky to pick out many details, the bold front end, aggressive roof spoiler and huge gold-tinted alloy wheels will certainly give Audi RS 6 Performance owners pause for thought.
Much of the M5 Touring’s exterior has already been laid bare in spy photos taken at its local stomping ground in Germany, the Nurburgring road-course, where its blistered wheel arches, quad exhaust outlets and various aerodynamic mods are plain for all to see.
So when can Aussies order one and how much will the 2025 BMW M5 Touring cost?
It hasn’t been confirmed for Australia but it’s very likely to be get green-lit for the performance car-loving island continent, and pricing could go north of $250,000.
The M5 Touring will have a hefty price-tag attached because its turbocharged V8 petrol engine features a plug-in hybrid module now, which together are expected to make the wild wagon an adrenaline-pumping family hauler.
As the first BMW M5 Touring wagon in more than a decade, it should arrive Down Under by late 2024 or early 2025 and is all but certain to be packing a tweaked version of the BMW XM (480kW/800Nm ) super SUV’s 4.4-litre V8 and could churn out more than 530kW.
It should also be able to drive up to 100km in pure EV mode thanks to a 25kWh battery pack.
It’s not clear whether the extra weight will hurt its 0-100km/h acceleration time but it’ll need to hit 3.3 seconds if it’s to outpace the current large luxury wagon champion, the 3.4 second Audi RS 6 Performance.
When BMW finally releases the new-generation G91 M5 Touring, it will mark only the third time the German luxury car brand has offered a flagship high-performance M5 wagon since 1984.
The last BMW M5 Touring wagon was retired in 2010, when the iconic V10-powered E61 BMW M5 was put to bed.
