Nearly 43000 Mercedes-Benz Cars Recalled Over Missing Brake Inspection Gauges

According to a report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mercedes-Benz has recalled nearly 43,000 vehicles in the U.S. that might be missing inspection gauges on their rear brake pads. Without these inspection gauges, it becomes impossible for users to know whether their break pads are worn, thereby increasing the risk of crashes.

According to the report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, without the inspection gears, the cars do not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards, thereby increasing the risk of crashes as drivers won’t know if they break pads are worn.

The report also noted that the owners manual provided with vehicles might not tell the drivers how to properly use the inspection gauges.

The NHTSA report requires Mercedes-Benz to install new inspection gauges, provide updated owner’s manuals free of charge, as well as notify all owners by mail by the end of the year.

The recalled vehicles include the 2019-2020 A220, the 2020 AMG A35, the 2020 AMG CLA35, the 2020 AMG CLA45, the 2020 CLA250, the 2020 GLB250 and the 2021 GLA250.

NHTSA’s Clamp Down

This recall follows 2.1 million vehicles’ worth of recalls last week. The NHTSA recalled over 1.8 million Toyota RAV4 SUVs over a battery issue that was causing fire risk, as well as nearly 188,000 Ford Mustangs that had issues with the brake fluid level sensors.

More than 97,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs were recalled over a seatbelt issue while almost 12,000 Mazda CX-90 SUVs and Mazda3 compact cars were recalled over a software issue that prevented the rear, front and side camera feeds from displaying.

With a market share of nearly $66 billion, Mercedes-Benz is undoubtedly one of the world’s most valuable luxury auto makers. In 2022, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe became the most expensive car to ever be sold. A buyer paid approximately $142 million for the vehicle at an auction.
