Toyota today has teased that a new dawn is coming—and that’s literally it. No further hints as to what that new dawn will shed light on, except for a dark teaser image of what’s clearly a sedan. With recent updates and introductions of Toyota’s other non-SUV models seemingly out of the way, and judging from the proportions of the vehicle in the teaser image, we’re guessing there’s a new Camry on the horizon.

You can see our design render of what the new Camry could look like in the gallery below:

Unfortunately, a quick shadow lift in photoshop does not reveal any more details on the teased car, except for the rather large Toyota badge on the nose, and the obvious and new daytime running light signature shape that makes us think this new Camry might be a little more sporty (and inspired by the new Prius light signature). Given the trajectory of the current generation, slowly adapting more of its NASCAR heritage into its design and trims, a sportier direction seems like a logical future for the Camry. Just look to the recent sporty Prius upgrade, and recently introduced Crown sedan, to see Toyota’s clear sporting design intentions of late.

Don’t expect a full EV yet—this is Toyota, after all, which still sees gas and hybrid models as having plenty of market life left to give. Toyota’s EV models are due to roll out by the end of the decade, and likely won’t replace big nameplates, at least initially. No, instead the new Camry will continue to be gas and hybrid. With current hybrid Camry sales reportedly at less than a fifth of total sales, it’s possible Toyota expands to more hybrid powertrain offerings for its mainstay sedan, or at least limits its gas options to incentivize more hybrid adoption going forward. We’ve previously discussed the likelihood that the current 208 horsepower hybridized 2.5-liter I-4 Camry powertrain will likely carry over, with the possibility of a hybrid turbo 2.4-liter I-4 setup paired with one or more electric motors (borrowed from the Crown) for a more powerful hybrid trim.

It’s anyone’s guess as to what the most powerful powertrain option ends up being, if not the new hybrid setup we just mentioned. Whichever setup it is, it could go into an all-new GR Camry performance model that has been previously discussed. It’s possible and logical that Toyota would wait for its new generation and design to introduce its sportiest and likely most powerful Camry to date, which is something to get excited about. As for when to expect this new Camry to debut, it isn’t mentioned in the teaser, but it’s very likely due by the end of the year, if not by next month.
