Sen. Fetterman walks picket line with striking UAW members in Bucks County – Pennsylvania Capital-Star

Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. John Fetterman on Thursday joined striking members of United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2177 on a picket line outside a General Motors facility in Langhorne, the second U.S. Senator to visit the plant, and the second time Fetterman has joined UAW picketers since the strike began Sept. 15.

“What you’re doing is just and it’s the right thing,” Fetterman told the striking workers, according to a statement from his office. “Make them pay until they pay you what you all deserve.”

The same day President Joe Biden joined striking United Auto Workers members on a picket line in Michigan, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) visited the Langhorne picket line. Fetterman drove his “UAW-made Ford Bronco from Braddock, Pennsylvania to Wayne, Michigan,” on Sept. 16, the day after the strike began, to show his support.

UAW workers began a strike on Sept. 15, after their contracts with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, the “Big Three” auto manufacturers, expired without reaching a new agreement. UAW members are seeking double-digit pay raises and the elimination of worker tiers. The Langhorne location fulfills orders for GM vehicle parts and delivers them to local dealerships.

Fetterman said Thursday that the workers’ cause was important. “I should be here and shame on anyone that wouldn’t be here,” he said.
