2024 BMW F 900 GS: Design And Chassis

The BMW F 900 GS gets a refreshing new design which seems to be focused on making it slim and sharp, as well as look more agile and lithe. There are new body parts, including side panels and standard heated grips and hand protectors. The typical ADV ‘beak’ has been toned down, and the F 900 GS now has a redesigned face with an all-new headlight and slim bodywork. The F 900 GS comes with full LED lighting, and the new headlight offers a larger low beam opening angle offering better illumination. There’s also a 6.5-inch TFT display as standard, and the F 900 GS also includes a 12 mm holder for mounting action cameras or other digital devices.

A bridge-type steel frame uses the engine as a stressed element, and the bolt-on rear subframe gives the bike a slimmer looking tail section. Quite some weight has been shaved off from the new BMW F 900 GS, as well, by as much as 31 pounds. Part of that weight reduction has been contributed by the 3.8-gallon plastic fuel tank replacing the steel fuel tank of the previous model, and the new fuel tank along saves almost 10 pounds. Other weight savings have been made with the redesigned tail section as well as the Akrapovic exhaust system. The swingarm is lighter, and the bike comes with a standard aluminum side stand. The F 900 GS also gets an all-new subframe which is not just slimmer but helps shed 5.3 pounds as well. All the weight saving measures result in a claimed kerb weight of 482 pounds.

The ergonomics have been changed with an eye on improving off-road use with 0.8 inch lower footpegs, a handlebar positioned 0.6 inches higher and the new design of the fuel tank, offering advantages when riding standing up on rough terrain. The gearshift lever is now adjustable, while the rear brake lever has been optimized to a higher position for off-road riding. Both the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure come with a fully adjustable 43mm USD front fork from Showa and 9 inches of travel.
