What Do Jennifer Lopez and Danny DeVito Have in Common? This $85 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

A Beverly Hills, Calif., home recently rented by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez is going on the market for $85 million.

The celebrity couple leased the 12-bedroom estate before buying a $61 million home in May, according to real-estate agent Santiago Arana of The Agency, who has the listing with Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty.  

This isn’t the home’s first brush with Hollywood celebrities. The estate is also the former home of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, who owned the house for about two decades before selling it in 2015, according to property records. 

The current owner, Australian billionaire James Packer, bought the house for around $65 million in 2018, he said. Packer, son of the late media magnate Kerry Packer, is perhaps best known for his family’s longtime association with the Australian casino operator Crown Resorts, and for his onetime relationship with singer Mariah Carey. 

Spanning roughly 32,000 square feet, the estate sits on about 1.3 acres, according to the listing agents. The home originally dates to around 1930, records show, but has been significantly remodeled since. It still has DeVito’s original movie screening room, where a mechanized wall lifts to separate the theater from an adjacent entertainment space. Other amenities include a fitness room, a wine cellar, a wood-paneled cigar room and a game room with a bar and billiards. 

The grounds include a large outdoor pool and spa, a poolhouse, and an outdoor dining area with an al fresco kitchen. There are two garages: one with parking for six cars, including three car lifts, and another for two cars.

The agents said Packer invested significantly in the home after his purchase, redoing the landscaping, upgrading the theater and making other cosmetic changes. 

Luxury home sales have slowed across the country, but Arana said he believes the property’s prime Beverly Hills location will be a draw for buyers, especially since Beverly Hills homes aren’t subject to the new Los Angeles mansion tax.

“The market in general is good—maybe not great, but it is good,” Mills said. “We are seeing properties sell that are priced correctly.”

Affleck and Lopez’s new home is located in Wallingford Estates, a gated community, and has about 38,000 square feet of living space, according to the listing.
