The Acura TLX Type S is tailor-made to compete with the likes of the BMW M330i/340i, Audi A4, and Cadillac CT4-V. Compared to a compatibly optioned BMW M340i xDrive the Acura TLX proves to offer strong value. For starters, the BMW M340i xDrive starts at $59,600 to the TLX Type S Performance price of just under $57,000. The TLX makes a strong argument for its case against the German rival as buyers get a bigger overall vehicle, with comparable luxury features at a better price.

Where the Acura falls short is in the engine performance where the M340i xDrive takes the cake with an output of 382 horsepower and 368 pound feet of torque from an inline-six engine. The M340i engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission whereas the Acura TLX runs a 10-speed gearbox.

BMW also gets the better of the Acura in fuel efficiency with the BMW M340i achieving a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and a combined city highway of 25 mpg significantly better than the TLX 19 city and 21 combined rating. It’s important to note that these two vehicles are not track monsters instead glorified pavement carvers with impressive performance at decent prices, with this perspective in mind the Acura TLX comes out as the better value.
