West Yorkshire Police confirmed a man in his 30s, who was driving a black BMW X4, has been arrested following the crash in the Huddersfield area of the county last night

A seven-year-old boy has died today after being hit by a car.

The collision happened at around 6pm last night in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and, though the boy was dashed to hospital, police have today confirmed he died. The driver of a black BMW X4, a man his 30s, involved in the incident has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.



Residents reported that there were several police and fire service teams in the area, and witnesses said the boy, a pedestrian, had become trapped underneath a vehicle.

West Yorkshire Police said the suspect remains in police custody at this time and officers investigating the incident are asking anyone who may have information which could help to get in touch. They are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or the lead-up to the incident to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Huddersfield are appealing for witnesses. It happened in Longfield Avenue, Golcar at about 6pm on Wednesday (30 August) when a black BMW X4 was in collision with a child pedestrian. The seven-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.

“The driver of the vehicle, a male in his thirties, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in custody at this time. Media are requested to respect the privacy of the deceased’s family at what will clearly be a very difficult time for them.”
