Tesla has secured the necessary permits for its innovative Diner and Drive-In Movie Supercharger on North Orange and Santa Monica Boulevard, just outside West Hollywood. The information was revealed through documents obtained from the LA Department of Building and Safety.

The company has been considering the idea of a drive-in movie theater and diner Supercharger site for some time. The proposed site would include 32 charging stalls, two screens to display well-known movie scenes, and a restaurant featuring rooftop seating.

Originally, the plan was to construct the facility on various lots in Santa Monica. However, the site was later shifted to Hollywood and is now set to be situated at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard.

As Tesla’s project advanced through standard regulatory procedures, the company received several approvals and correction requests for numerous applications to initiate construction at the Diner/Supercharger location.

In the latter part of July, Tesla was granted permission for the restaurant to grade the area, erect walls, and construct movie screens on the lot. The applications were filed by Tesla in November 2022, and after an eight-month review, the plan was sanctioned by the City of Los Angeles, with the permit being issued on July 18.

The project’s architectural design is credited to Stantec Architecture, based in Chandler, Ariz., while PCL Construction Services Inc., located in Glendale, Calif., is listed as the contractor.

On August 9, the initial grading inspection was finalized and approved, giving Tesla the go-ahead to proceed with the project.

The site’s features will include 32 Supercharger stalls, a restaurant with a variety of food options, rooftop seating, and.

Tesla’s Supercharger Network is recognized as the most extensive among all automakers globally. Even as charging speeds increase and entertainment becomes less essential, there remains a desire for unique experiences at charging locations.

Tesla’s introduction of the Diner and Drive-In Supercharger represents a novel concept, and it may become one of the company’s most appealing stops for those in need of a charge.
