Meet Hot Rod Homer. A celebrity anywhere he goes during Monterey Car Week, along with his 12 classic car replicas. A Ferrari, a Porsche, a Volkswagen bus and even a bug. The cars were first for his kids but now they are for Homer, a 7-year-old Jack Russel Chihuahua mix rescue from San Diego.Each replica was made by his owner, Sergio Prado.“Right out of high school, I started building cars. It was always in my blood. I’ve been building these for 20 years, 25 years more or less,” said Prado . “As soon as the day is done at our shop, upholstery shop that he runs he goes right into his little corner and start building these cars. That’s what he does for fun,” explained his son, Sergio Prado, Jr. The pair travels to different car shows, fairs and even convalescent homes. This is their second time at car week.“We were here last year at the Porsche works for union and we saw the Porsche car over there with a dog in it pushing it around and you know there’s more attention on that than any of the cars,” said Homer fan Gordan Betts. On top of the cool cars, Homer’s style is stealing the show. From glasses to his custom helmet. The hours it took to make these cars paying off, Sergio says, in people’s smiles.
