Cars have made major advancements in digital displays. That technology is not as easy to replicate (safely) for motorcycles. And digital readouts are just starting to arrive in motorcycle helmets. But BMW has announced what may be an innovative solution with its new ConnectedRide Smartglasses.

The ConnectedRide Smartglasses essentially provide a HUD interface for motorcyclists
BMW says it aims to replicate the function of a head-up display in a car. The glasses display real-time data on key elements like speed, navigation (with both reduced and detailed display options) and gear selection within the rider’s field of vision, avoiding the need to look down. The glasses can pair with a smartphone via Bluetooth with a dedicated app or be adjusted from the bike’s handlebars.

BMW says the glasses can be adjusted to fit various motorcycle helmets and face shapes. A version with tinted lenses can function as sunglasses. You can also get the glasses with 85 percent transparency to work with an existing sun visor.
From what we can tell, the Smartglasses function best when paired with the app and an equipped BMW motorcycle. But they should work with other bikes as well.
How much battery life do they have?
According to BMW, the ConnectedRide Smartglasses should be good for 10 hours of battery life and can be charged via USB-C.

Can you get BMW ConnectedRide Smartglasses with a prescription?
Yes. The glasses can come with an RX Adapter, ordered from the manufacturer, that can accommodate prescriptions up to +/- 4.5 diopters.
How much do the BMW ConnectedRide Smartglasses cost?
BMW has not offered American pricing information yet. But the recommended retail price in Europe is €690, which works out to a little more than $750 at the current exchange rate. They should be available soon.
