These days, it seems like everybody is going electric, even the military. As the Army has recently gotten approval to shop around for an Electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle and has already given a contract to Oshkosh for a new battery-powered Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, defense vehicle companies are clamoring to get the U.S. military’s attention. GM Defense, who already makes a nine-passenger gas-powered Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) for the Army, it’s now made a new all-electric ISV concept on spec and is hoping to earn yet another contract sometime soon.

The Army has already been looking at GMC Hummer EVs to evaluate what the upside would be for using one as an ISV. And so, unveiled at the Modern Day Marine 2023 exposition in Washington D.C., GM Defense has built its new Electric Military Concept Vehicle (eMCV) based on the Hummer EV pickup. However, the tactical vehicle uses General Motors’ Ultium Platform, which has better power and range than any other hybrid or EV tech made by the marque. Powering a three-motor e4WD propulsion system, the 200kWh battery offers 1,000hp, 11,500lb.ft of torque, and a combined driving range of over 300 miles.

The three motors include a dual-motor rear drive unit with virtual locking capability and a front motor with a locking differential. External charging capabilities include being able to get an extra 100 miles in just 12 minutes of plugging in. The vehicle holds six passengers and has Silent Watch and Silent Drive features, which allow for low acoustic and low thermal signature in certain situations. As far as off-road performance, the eMCV boasts FOX performance shocks, 37-inch tires, heavy-duty brakes, and improved approach and departure angles. It also has an onboard 12kW diesel-powered generator for charging external equipment, a 46-inch gun ring, and swing side-arm mounts.
