The family of an Everett teen struck by a car last week and now in a medically induced coma filed a civil lawsuit against the man facing criminal charges after the crash.

Milena Tene, 14, was walking in a parking lot with her father, Tedd Bimbo, in Chelsea on Sunday, June 18, when a driver struck Tene and left her severely injured. Tene is now in a medically induced coma, according to a statement by Morgan & Morgan, a law firm representing Tene’s family.

“Milena Tene, a kind and ambitious 14-year-old who loves to swim and enjoys music and photography, dreams of becoming a nurse or a veterinarian,” Morgan & Morgan attorneys John Morgan, Dillon Brozyna and Garrett Lee wrote in a statement.

“Those dreams may be in jeopardy,” the statement continued. “The injuries Milena has sustained will also limit her ability to enjoy her daily life. While the criminal case progresses, we will explore every angle of this civil case to ensure all negligent parties are held accountable for Milena and her family’s devastating trauma.”

The civil lawsuit follows criminal charges against the suspect accused of driving negligently in the crash.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office brought charges against Ceserino Borelli, 44, of Watertown, in connection with the crash. He was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing bodily injury, and speeding, according to the district attorney’s office.

Judge Kareem Morgan ordered Borelli held on a $7,500 bail at an arraignment on Wednesday. Borelli was also ordered not to drive while the case against him is pending and to stay in Massachusetts, Hayden’s office said.

The lawsuit, filed in Suffolk County Superior Court on Thursday, brought by Tene’s family accuses Borelli of one count of negligent driving and seeks a trial by jury for damages caused by the crash.

No attorneys were listed for Borelli in the civil case.

Authorities previously described the crash as happening at 8:10 p.m. last Sunday when a Mercedes Benz sedan sped into a Dunkin’ parking lot at 276 Beacham St. The car crashed into multiple cards and witnesses told Massachusetts State Police that the car flew over a fence bordering the coffee shop and a parking lot of RISE Cannabis.

The car struck a parked Mercedes before it hit Tene, leaving her critically injured, according to the district attorney’s office.

Authorities charged Borelli in connection with the crash and said he drove at a high rate of speed in the build-up.

The girl’s father, Teddy, told Channel 7 News on Monday that his daughter was in a coma.

“She’s not doing well at all,” Bimbo told the news outlet. “Her lungs are bruised, her heart is bruised, she’s having a hard time feeding right now.”

Borelli is due back in court on July 19 for a pre-trial hearing, Hayden’s office said.
