Owners of GM EVs Will Have Access to Tesla Superchargers in 2024

Just three months after Tesla announced it would open its Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles — and only weeks after Ford claimed the first spot in line — GM has announced a similar partnership.

Starting in early 2024, GM EV owners will have access to more than 12,000 Superchargers across North America. Initially, owners will need to use an adapter, but beginning in 2025, GM EVs will come fitted with a charging port that’s compatible with Tesla’s infrastructure, which uses what is now called the North American Charging Standard.

GM is also working to integrate the Tesla network into its own mobile and in-vehicle apps. Under Ford’s agreement with Tesla, its owners will need to download the Tesla app and set up an account with payment information for the time being. But by the time GM EV drivers have access to the Supercharger network, its apps will have been updated to include all of the necessary information to interface with Tesla’s chargers. Currently, non-Tesla customers can pay per charge at rates that are similar to what they’d pay at other charging networks or buy a monthly subscription to charge at a reduced cost.
