Arnold Police are searching for a red 2006 BMW 350 that allegedly hit a police SUV while the driver was fleeing from an officer outside Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave. No officer was inside the Chevrolet Tahoe when it was struck, and the vehicle sustained minor damage, police reported.

At about 1:15 p.m. May 5, an officer patrolling the parking lot noticed the BMW had a license plate that was registered to another vehicle. The officer parked the patrol SUV in front of the car to collect more information about the vehicle, the report said.

While the officer was inspecting the car, a man came out of the store, got into the BMW and drove the car between another vehicle and the police cruiser to get away from the officer. The front driver’s side of the BMW allegedly hit the rear driver’s side of the SUV as the driver was pulling out of the parking spot, according to the report.

The driver sped away and got onto northbound I-55. The Arnold Police officer did not pursue the BMW, the report said.

As of May 11, the driver of the BMW had not been identified, and the car had not been located, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
