The Ford Mustang Is The Worlds Best Selling Sports Car

It’s hard to see the Ford Mustang as a sports car, given that it wears the badge of the first muscle car ever to reach the market; however, with all of its performance attributes, it also falls into that category. Ford Mustang has been the world’s best-selling sports car over the last ten years combined, according to Ford analysis of registration data from S&P Global Mobility.

The Ford Mustang is celebrating its 59th birthday, and what better way to celebrate it than to commemorate its success? According to Ford’s internal data, the United States remains home to the most substantial demand for Mustang, representing 78 percent of global sales (though sales in the USA touched an all-time low last year). Globally, however, the Mustang saw growth.

Mustang sales in 2022 grew in Germany, up 17 percent; Britain, up 14.4 percent; Switzerland, up 14.9 percent; and the Middle East, up 7.4 percent.

2024 Ford Mustang Looks To Continue A Legacy

We can expect the all-new, seventh-generation Ford Mustang to add another chapter to the icon, delivering the looks, sound, and appeal of the world’s best-selling sports car over the last ten years combined, whether convertible or coupe, Coyote V8 or EcoBoost turbo-four, manual or automatic, the S650 Ford Mustang has options at multiple price points and performance levels and plenty of tech to give people a truly unique experience.

Ultimately, it’s seeking a younger customer. Because it has to.

The 2024 Ford Mustang has two new engines, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost and the Mustang GT’s most potent 5.0-liter Coyote V8 ever. With the new Remote Rev feature and available Electronic Drift Brake, there’s plenty of fun outside the car or behind the wheel. We must also remember the Mustang Dark Horse, which offers the most power out of the Coyote V8.

Finally, there’s also the Mustang Mach-E SUV, an electric addition to the Mustang family, now available in 39 countries. While hardcore Mustang fans don’t want to consider it part of the family, we’d likely see hybrid options of the best-selling sports car on the market rather than the gas-guzzling epicness that is the 5.0L Coyote V8 if it wasn’t.
