Who Bought Alan Jackson’s Mansion?

In the summer of 2009, Alan Jackson and his wife listed their 135-acre estate outside of Franklin, Tennessee, for a whopping $38 million.

How much did Alan Jackson sell his house for in the end? One year after listing the mansion on the market, the 19,000 square-foot estate, designed after the Tara plantation in the classic historical novel Gone with the Wind, sold for $28 million.

Although it was less than the original asking price, it remains the highest price ever paid for a home in the immediate Nashville area.

The house was bought by a California businessman named Willis Johnson, Copart salvage car auction founder.

Jackson said of the sale: “Well, he commutes to LA, but he’s got a house in the valley.”

After selling the house, the couple paid $3.675 million for an estate in the same suburb. If only we had that kind of income.

Alan Jackson Real Estate Holdings

Alan Jackson has proved that he has held some prime real estate over the years.

After making the historic $28 million sale in May 2010 on his 18,600 square foot antebellum mansion known as a Sweetbriar, he and his wife have continued to obtain and sell multiple properties in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee.

He and his wife once owned a 7,600-square-foot mansion on the Lake Burton shoreline in Clarksville, Tennessee. It later sold for $6,025,000 million.

The couple has also owned a 22,012 square-foot hilltop house in the Nashville suburb of Franklin designed by Ron Farris, a famous country architect.

The Jacksons spent a lot of money on the property, $795,000, to be exact. In retrospect, however, that’s a small amount considering it was later sold for $19 million. Talk about a turnaround sale bringing in significant revenue.

As of April 2017, the Jacksons still own 84 acres in the same suburb, which he bought at a 3.6-million-dollar price.

Alan Jackson Property

Along with having good taste in homes, Alan Jackson also has excellent taste in classic American muscle cars. He owns an impressive collection of convertibles, including a 1962 Corvette and a 1968 Shelby GT 500 KR.

This makes listening to his songs about cars even more fun to listen to, like “Mercury Blues” and “First Love.”

When Did Alan Jackson Start Singing?

Alan Jackson grew up listening to and singing gospel music from a young age. Later, after being introduced to country legends such as Gene Watson, Hank Williams Jr., and John Anderson, he began singing country music, too.

After graduating high school, he joined the country music band Dixie Steel.

What kind of voice does Alan Jackson have? Almost immediately, Alan Jackson is a mellow baritone with a hint of that classic southern twang.

Jackson started writing music in 1983 and honed the craft while working in the mailroom of The Nashville Network after first moving to Nashville. He also spent time recording demos.

Then, his big break came, thanks to his wife, Denise Jackson.

Alan Jackson’s Big Break

Alan Jackson found success thanks to his wife, Denise Jackson, who started working as a flight attendant when the couple moved to Nashville to help bring in more income for the young newlyweds.

Who should she run into during that job but the legendary Glen Campbell? With full belief in her husband’s abilities, she boldly asked for the “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer’s advice.

She also handed him a copy of her husband’s demo and a business card for his manager. Everything kickstarted from there.

Jackson officially signed with the Arista Records branch, Arista Nashville, in 1989, as the first artist under the new label.

From there, it only took two singles for the country music world to know they had a new artist to watch out for when “Here in the Real World” hit the streets in January 1990.

If that weren’t enough, releasing his debut album of the same name would bring about even more hits, such as “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow” and his first number-one, “I’d Love You All Over Again.”

“Murder on Music Row”

“Murder on Music Row” was never officially a single. Still, Alan Jackson and George Strait sparked a debate amidst the country music community as people everywhere wondered if traditional country music was really dead.

The song became the highest-charting nonseasonal album cut to hit the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, and the duo opened the 2000 Academy of Country Music Awards with a live performance of the now-famous song.

As a result, Rolling Stone commented, saying, “If Garth and Shania have raised the bar for country concerts with Kiss-style production and endless costume changes, then Alan Jackson is doing his best to return the bar to a more human level.”

The song wouldn’t be Jackson’s only one that criticized the change in country music. His most recent one is “Where Have You Gone,” released as part of his 21st studio album of the same name, which came out in 2021.

Alan Jackson’s First Grammy Award

When the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks happened, the whole of America seemed to be in shambles.

At the Country Music Association Awards two months later, Alan Jackson seemed to bring everyone’s emotions full circle with his song, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”

Written in the early morning hours with just his underwear on, the song brought Jackson into the mainstream spotlight beyond the world of country music. The song would earn Alan Jackson’s first Grammy Award win for Best Country Song.

Featuring both a live version from the CMA performance and a radio version, the hit song was included on his next studio album, Drive, in 2002.

Jackson would win his second Grammy Award in 2011, Best Country Collaboration with Vocals, for his duet with the Zac Brown Band on the band’s hit song, “As She’s Walking Away.”

What was Alan Jackson’s most successful song?

After releasing Drive, Alan Jackson gifted fans with his second compilation album, Greatest Hits Volume II, which not only allowed us to listen to our favorites on one sweet album but gave us more new songs, including what was Alan Jackson’s most successful song, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” featuring Jimmy Buffet.

The song would prove the singer’s longest-standing chart-topper, holding steady for eight weeks at the number eight spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Since the release of Volume II, we can only continue to hope that the singer will eventually give us a third. It’s certainly a possibility considering he has since released ten more studio albums since then with everything from country to gospel to bluegrass.
