Earlier this year, BMW showcased the concept i Vision Dee at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which featured futuristic concepts like a color-changing exterior skin and next-generation interior tech that would require autonomous driving for the driver to fully enjoy. One of the Dee’s concept ideas, however, will be offered in the automaker’s Neue Klasse cars – the BMW Panoramic Vision, which displays information on your windshield but is much more than a heads-up display.
The Neue Klasse line of electric vehicles is scheduled to debut in 2025 and will represent a “quantum leap” in technology, design and sustainability. The first two models are expected to be an i3 Sedan and an iX3.

The new Panoramic Vision technology uses a dark-coated area on the lower edge of the windshield to display information with a higher light intensity and higher contrast. It encompasses the entire width of the windshield. Displayed information could include vehicle speed, drive settings, battery life and more. It will be part of the iDrive control system and the information will be displayed for both drivers and occupants. The new technology does not completely replace other user interfaces, with additional screens remaining on the dashboard.
The new technology reinforces BMW’s driver-centric approach, emphasizing an “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” concept. This is not a new approach for BMW, which began reducing the number of switches and buttons on the dash in the early 2000s, well before it was a common trend.
The first EVs from the Neue Klasse lineup will be produced in Dobrecen, Hungary, and Munich, Germany. Production will begin in North America, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and San Luis Potosí, Mexico, after production in Europe begins. BMW plans to produce six EV models. The company has not yet disclosed whether Panoramic Vision will be standard or an optional add-on.
