Tesla is a company that is going through an interesting period at the moment. Away from Elon Musk’s own antics, Tesla’s rivals are coming after it. Cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 6 are offering as much quality at a more attractive price for many. And the self-driving system has caused Tesla plenty of grief. However, the brand recently revealed that it is working on its next generation of electric cars at a recent investor call.

That has given us a tantalizing glimpse into the future of Tesla. Improving on its pricing, revitalizing the style of the range and further changes could help Tesla to stamp its authority on the EV world again. It has the potential to offer something great, so lets see if they do that.

Tesla Can Offer Fresh Styling To The Range

Looks are a subjective matter, but there is something lacking in the styling of a Tesla EV. There is a safe and conservative approach to how their cars look, while the Model X is probably the worst offender when it comes to its overall looks. Contrast this to Hyundai with their perfect looking Ioniq 5 and its retro inspired shape. Then there is the Ioniq 6, the streamlined stunner that offers something different even to its sibling. Other EV manufacturers are producing great looking cars. Such as Renault with the upcoming Renault 5 EV and of course Honda’s short-range but pretty e.

Looks do play a factor in people buying a car. If someone likes the look of a car they will more likely buy it than something they don’t. So while Tesla’s products are overall very impressive, it’s easy to see that they have perhaps fallen behind styling wise to their rivals. It isn’t something that has really evolved in the Tesla range since they launched their first production model. The next generation Tesla may offer something a little bit different.

Tesla’s Next Generation Needs More Affordable Pricing

Tesla has made an effort to make its cars somewhat more affordable with some recent price slashing. But a Tesla can still be expensive, dew pending on the model. For example, should you want the long range Tesla Model Y you will stump out at least $54,990 according to their website at the time of writing. The Model X costs a staggering $99,990 in its dual-motor all-wheel drive form and the Model X Plaid costs even more at $109,990. Other EVs are at the moment much more affordable than some of Tesla’s products.

The Ioniq 5 for example from Hyundai, as of 2023, starts out at $41,450. Impressively, the Ioniq 6 is virtually the same price with its own starting price at $45,500 in 2023. This despite the Ioniq 6 being a few years newer than its sibling. It is these pricing levels that Tesla must adjust too when it comes to its next generation products. Consumers will want value for money. And the brand snobbery that may have existed towards those like Hyundai at one point is disappearing. Tesla is facing much more competition now than it ever has done in the EV world.

Tesla Products Have Plenty Of Plus Points

Despite their increased competition, there is still a lot of good about Tesla’s cars. Tesla’s own supercharging network is one of the best in the world, with it investing in more and more chargers as time goes on. The Model X might be a big lump, but it offers plenty of space while the technology within a Tesla isn’t matched by many other car companies. It is only now that the systems and infotainment within the cars from their rivals is starting to catch up. That large touchscreen and clean dashboard present something very different to your regular automobile.

Tesla’s are also incredibly safe. The NHTSA has given some models five stars, while Sentry Mode can help detect various external threats to the car. The self-driving system though is very much something that needs a bit of work. Accidents have befallen those who utilize the system.

It is important for Tesla that they get this next generation product correct. In whatever form it takes. The hope is that its new cars will get built with fewer rare earth materials, and at a much faster rate than before. This also comes along with the news that the Cybertruck will at last enter production in 2023. Tesla are also hoping that its next-generation powertrain will have a lighter impact on the environment too. And the company will utilize its “space-time efficiency” program in its new models. The future of Tesla is set to be a truly fascinating affair.
