A true family hybrid has to be efficient and low-emission, and the new Japanese vehicle fulfills both of those criteria. The 5th-generation hybrid powertrain combines the inline four-cylinder M20A-FXS 2.0L gas engine and two motor generators and uses a planetary-type CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission, known for optimizing fuel efficiency.)

The estimated 0-60 mph time for the front-wheel-drive version is 7.2 seconds, an impressive improvement of 2.6 seconds over the previous FWD Prius. The all-wheel-drive model has an estimated 0-60 mph time of 7.0 seconds and has two more net hp compared to the FWD. Maximum engine torque has increased by 16% for this generation, from 120 to 139 lb.-ft. on all models.

The braking system also helps increase fuel efficiency. The ECB, or Electronically Controlled Brake system, uses electric motor generators to recover power from the braking (regenerative braking.) These small boosts of energy eventually add up to maximize the car’s fuel efficiency.

There is also an active hydraulic brake booster on the conventional (non-regenerative) braking system to improve the pedal feel and feedback to the driver. Brake Hold is a standard feature on the 2023 Prius, coming in handy in heavy traffic and driving in urban environments. It automatically releases once the accelerator pedal has been pressed.

Drive modes include Normal, which is an optimal setting for both performance and fuel saving, Eco, which saves on gas by limiting power on lighter presses of the accelerator pedal, Sport, which prioritizes performance, and EV, a completely electric mode useful in indoor garages for short periods and distances.

Lowering the roofline by two inches compared to the previous model, as well as widening the rear by one inch makes the new Prius feel somewhat sportier than before. Its hip point is one inch lower, making the driving position more comfortable. The new Japanese hybrid was built on the second-generation TNGA-C platform, reducing the weight, increasing rigidity, and lowering the center of gravity.

The Coefficient of Drag, or Cd, of the car is 0.27- thanks to its aerodynamic, sleek look. Front grille shutters further help the inflow of air, aerodynamics, and cooling of the vehicle, while underbody Aero stabilizing panels reduce road noise and drag.

Standard exterior colors include Electric Storm Blue, Classic Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and Sea Glass Pearl. For an additional $425, you can purchase the Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl premium exterior colors. There are two interior fabric color choices: Black and Moonstone.

The 2023 Toyota Prius interior gets a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system. This allows for Over-The-Air updates and voice activation control, making the driving experience more convenient. Saying “Hey Toyota” will wake up the system for voice commands, which can find POIs (Points Of Interest), adjust the audio, change the climate control temperature, and more. POI search is provided by Google, keeping the navigation up-to-date.

Great Range Of 2023 Prius Family Hybrid Models

The 2023 Toyota Prius configurator offers a choice of eight models and three grades: LE, XLE, and Limited. The LE grade offers 17-inch alloy wheels with wheel covers, an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, and 6-way adjustable front seats covered in fabric. As usual, Toyota offers, even on more basic models, top-notch safety features, such as an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), A Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA). The LE can also be equipped with Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB).

The XLE has an increased alloy wheel size of 19 inches for a more luxurious look while including everything on the LE. It also sports 8-way adjustable seats and standard rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, a wireless charger, and a smart key. You can upgrade to options such as a 12.3-inch multimedia display, fixed glass roof, and Digital Key.

The Limited grade offers everything previously mentioned standard features. Still, it adds a standard 12.3-inch JBL Premium Audio touchscreen display, SofTex heated + ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a fixed glass roof, and Digital Key (also giving you a one-year trial to Toyota Remote Connect.) You can opt for even more additional options, like the Panoramic View Monitor, a Digital Rearview Mirror, heated rear seats, and Advanced Park, helping you to park with ease while it navigates into tight spaces and parallel parks like a pro.

Choosing any one of the grades or models pays off in the long run (with small price differences between the grades, with the LE starting at $26,285 and the Limited at $33,370.) The 2023 Toyota Prius offers a lot for the price: efficiency, reliability, low emissions, and comfort, making it especially suitable for families looking to save money without cutting on the quality of their hybrid car.
