Catalytic converter thieves are at it again, but instead of stealing the parts from Toyota Prii, they have moved on to other types of vehicles. According to the Bloomington Police, at least 5 vehicles were recently targeted.

Sometime overnight between December 8 and 9, 2022, thieves stole the catalytic converter from a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe parked in the 1000 block of South Washington Street. Then they targeted a 2008 Kia Sportage parked in the 1400 block of South Washington Street.

The driver of a 2008 Kia Sportage told police they started up their car last Friday and, “it sounded like a tank,” after their converter was stolen in the 800 block of North Smith Road.

In the 700 block of Woodbridge, the owner of a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe found that their catalytic converter was stolen sometime around December 9, 2022. They said the vehicle was quite loud when they started it up.

The driver of a Honda CRV had their catalytic converter stolen sometime between December 5, and 8, 2022.

Another vehicle owner reported having car parts stolen in the 1600 block of East Hillside, but there were no other details.
