Having a diverse lineup of vehicles might be important to a carmaker or a brand looking to cash in from diverse customers. For instance, Ford doesn’t just have its best-selling F-Series; it also has the Mustang, Bronco, Mach-E, and a couple of SUVs and commercial vehicles.
Interestingly, carmakers and brands also offer special editions of their vehicle models. In a way, this allows them to increase the variety of their offerings, thereby catering to different customers. In addition, special edition models allow carmakers and brands to spice up their vehicle lineup, even though for a limited time.
Mini also offers a number of models, although not as diverse as Ford. Thanks to the brand’s easily recognizable design DNA, Mini’s vehicles do look very similar to each other. But that doesn’t mean Mini is not doing something to spice up its lineup. In fact, Mini has been offering special editions through the years.
Not surprisingly, Mini created a special edition of the Cooper S to mark its 20 years in the United States. Not only that, Mini is also updating its Special Edition lineup in the US, offering various new options and features on the horizon.
Mini 20 Years Edition In Red, White And Blue
Mini launched Mini USA in 2002 as a business unit of BMW of North America. Initially, Mini USA was selling only Cooper and Cooper S Hardtops – all in Chili Red finish. Now, Mini is offering a model range of five distinct vehicles.
To mark its 20 years, Mini USA launched the Mini 20 Years Edition, which is essentially a special version of the 2023 Mini Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door. This special edition started arriving in the US in September, and each example is available to purchase at Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $36,315, plus a Destination and Handling charge of $850.
The brand will still offer the Mini 20 Years Edition in Chili Red, although two other color finishes are also available: Pepper White, and Island Blue. Mini called these three body colors as Patriotic, as they represent the core elements of the American and British flags.
Complementing the body colors are other exterior elements such as a Silver roof and mirror caps, Piano Black trim, and a hood with an offset stripe. The stripes feature a red, white and blue accent on the driver side and a star on the passenger side. The Mini 20 Years Edition also features side scuttle inlays, door sill plates, and C-pillar decals.
Exterior And Interior Details For Mini 20 Years Edition
Also featuring roof rails and a panoramic moonroof, the Mini 20 Years Edition rides on 17-inch Tentacle Spoke black wheels shod with all-season tires.
Inside, the Mini 20 Years Edition comes with sports seats in Carbon Black leatherette and a steering wheel in Nappa Leather with 20 Years Edition insert. Clad in Piano Black, the interior of the Special Edition features 20 Years graphics and Anthracite Headliner.
Mini loaded the Mini 20 Years Edition with several comfort features such dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, storage package, and a touchscreen navigation package. The interior package also includes Apple CarPlay and a Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster.
Mini Updates Resolute, Untold And Untamed Special Editions
Meanwhile, Mini USA is updating its Resolute, Untold and Untamed Special Editions with new body colors, upholstery, and engine variants. These three Special Editions are available on selected models with the Iconic Trim 2.0.
As an enhancement, the Mini Resolute Edition is now available with Enigmatic Black metallic body color with the Pepper White roof on all models. It is also available with Nanuq White on all Hardtop variants with body color roof. Mini is also offering the Mini Yours Lounge Leather Carbon Black as a $750 alternative.
Meanwhile, the Mini Untold Edition is now available as a John Cooper Works Clubman, Cooper S and Cooper S All4 variants. This special edition will feature Midnight Black metallic finish with black spats as an option.
On the other hand, the Untamed Edition remains as a Cooper S Countryman ALL4. It is now available with new Nanuq White finish, in addition to the Momentum Gray color. Both body colors feature a black contrast roof and mirrors, along with Edition graphics in Matte Bluestone.
Manual Is Back, Trim Levels Now Simplified
Starting November, the brand is reintroducing manual transmissions to certain variants of the Mini Hardtop 2 door range, as a standalone option in the US. Manual transmission will be available on these the Mini Hardtop 2 Door variants: Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works.
Interestingly, Mini USA is simplifying its trim offering due to supply chain restrictions, thereby ensuring continued delivery of new vehicles. Mini is no longer offering the Classic Trim level, but will add its equipment and options back into newly revised trim levels: Signature 2.0 and Iconic 2.0. However, the adding more equipment to these two trim levels means corresponding price hikes.
Mini will also offer — starting next month – the Melting Silver III color into its full range the new Nanuq White for the Mini hardtops, Clubman and Countryman. Mini will stop offering these colors — Pepper White, White Silver and Moonwalk Grey – starting October production.
