A man is in custody after he crashed a car into an MBTA bus and another vehicle while being pursued by Boston police in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority said the incident happened shortly before 2:20 p.m. Monday on Dudley Street, near the intersection of Winslow Street.

A witness told NewsCenter 5 that the driver of a silver Nissan sedan tried to pass the MBTA bus while fleeing from the police, but crashed head on into a black Mercedes-Benz sedan and ended up getting his car wedged between the Mercedes and the MBTA bus.

According to the MBTA, the bus driver reported that a vehicle made contact with the left side of the bus and hit another car as it was being pursued by Boston police.

“He was trying to get away but, you know, it wasn’t possible because the Mercedes was coming and the bus was there. So when he tried to cut, he was in a collision with the Mercedes,” one witness said.

Several witnesses said the suspect left the crash scene on foot before being caught by officers a short time later.

The MBTA confirmed the driver being pursued by Boston police was arrested. There is no word on what charges the driver is facing.

The bus driver reported back discomfort, and a passenger on the bus reported discomfort in their left shoulder and back, according to the MBTA. Both the bus driver and passenger were transported to Tufts Medical Center by Boston Emergency Medical Services.

The Nissan and Mercedes-Benz sedans were both towed away from the scene later Monday afternoon.

The circumstances of what led up to the crash are unclear at this point.
