With George Russell finishing fourth and Sir Lewis Hamilton sixth in the Formula 1 season last year, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s stint in F1 2022 was not that memorable. However, Mercedes-Benz wants to mark the end of the less-than-ideal year in style, as it has come up with a special-edition version of its SL 63 roadster. Named ‘Motorsport Collectors Edition’, this limited-run Mercedes-AMG SL 63 mimics the look of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance racing car, driven by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in the recently-concluded 2022 season of F1.

As revealed, the production of Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition will be limited to 100 units globally, which is now up for grabs on a first-come-first-serve basis. Based on the stock version of the flagship SL roadster, this limited-run, F1-inspired model gets a range of updates, the highlight of which is an exclusive dual-tone paint scheme. In addition, it also comes equipped with a host of equipment under exclusive Aerodynamics and Night packages. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t announced the ask of the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition, but expect the price to be higher than the currently-available $178,100 SL 63 Roadster.

Inspired by the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance racing car, the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition features a dual-tone combination of two suave-looking shades – High Tech Silver Metallic and Obsidian Black Metallic. In this limited-run car, the entire front and much of the side profile get the silver paint shade. However, the silver blends seamlessly with the Obsidian Black Metallic beyond the rear fender.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition also gets a host of three-pointed stars painted on its side and rear profiles, resembling the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star. Like the ludicrous F1 machine, this car also gets Petronas green signature neon contrasts on the front apron, side sill panels, and rear diffuser. The other significant change in this car is the matt black finish for the 21-inch, 10-spoke AMG forged wheels, which also get the F1 livery with the Petronas green neon pinstripe job. The electrically-operated soft top of this car is black-colored, while the fuel filler cap with AMG lettering is finished in a theme of silver chrome.

Two Exclusive Packages Pumping Up Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition

Mercedes-AMG offers two optional packages – Aerodynamics and Night – for the standard SL 63 Roadster. However, these packages have been offered as standard on the limited-run SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition. The AMG Aerodynamics package includes various aerodynamic-enhancing elements like larger flaps on the front and rear aprons, an active profile in the underbody, and a larger rear diffuser. These elements improve the downforce and aerodynamic drag, resulting in better efficiency and stability at higher speeds, which people love about the Mercedes-AMG SL roadsters.

Both regular and II versions of AMG Night packages are also offered in the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition as standard. The AMG Night Package includes darkened exhaust tailpipes and a gloss-black finish for the components like the front splitter, rearview mirror caps, side sill panels, brake calipers, and rear diffuser trim. The AMG Night Package II adds highlights like a black chrome finish for the radiator grille and logos and badging at the back, along with darkened finish for the headlamps and tail lights.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition gets a few tweaks on the inside, which are minimal but give the cabin an overall feeling of enhanced sportiness. The limited-run car is offered with AMG performance seats as standard, which can be configured in one of the two Nappa leather upholstery options – one with red topstitching or the other with yellow topstitching. These seats also feature embossed AMG emblems on the head restraints. The heated AMG performance steering wheel is also treated with AMG carbon fiber trim to keep one hooked on it while driving.

Mercedes-AMG has equipped the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition with some cool and premium features, such as ambient lighting, Burmester 3D surround sound system, MBUX interior assistant, driving assistance package, and head-up display. The equipment list also includes AMG Track Pace, a software that tracks a wide range of data while hitting the corners and stretches of a racetrack. Other bits offered with this car include illuminated AMG door sill panels, Guard 360-degree, and a customized AMG indoor car cover with a logo.

Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition retains the handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine paired with a 9-speed 9G-Tronic transmission from the already-fantastric standard SL 63 Roadster. With 577 hp and 590 lb-ft on tap, the SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition can do the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest-accelerating cars from Mercedes-AMG.
