These limited-edition sports sedans face a series of tests to determine which one performs better in different ways.

Mat Watson from YouTube automotive channel CarWow heads to the track to test out the head-to-head performance difference between two high performance sedans, the BMW M4 CSL and the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA sports sedan.

In a series of tests that include straight line drag races, roll races from various speeds and a braking test from 100 mph, check out the video to see how these two sports cars compare.

The BMW M4 CSL VS The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA

In comparing the specs between the two cars, the BMW M4 CSL coupe has a 3-liter inline-6 engine which outputs 550 hp alongside an 8-speed automatic transmission.

This M4 has the backseat removed for the purpose of weight reduction. In the UK, this BMW M4 cost just under $150,000 in US dollars.

By comparison, the Alfa Romeo has a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine which outputs 540 hp alongside an 8-speed automatic. The GTA version of the car is lighter than the standard Quadrifoglio, which, similarly to the M4 is for the purpose of weight reduction and speed. In the UK this Alfa Romeo costs around $178,000 US dollars.

Each of these cars are rare in the UK where this video gets filmed, with only 10 each going to the UK. In the initial drag race, the two cars are competitive with each other with the M4 barely pulling off a win, in part due to the BMW’s slow launch which Mat describes as “gentle.” This proves to be a repeat issue in subsequent drag races as the Alfa Romeo’s launch is significantly faster than the M4’s.

By the third race, the BMW M4 finally manages to pull off a decent launch and beats the Alfa Romeo Giulia by a larger margin, with final times of 11.6 seconds for the BMW and 12.2 seconds for the Alfa though it’s noted that the GTA has gotten a better time of 11.8 seconds in previous tests. Next they do a series of 1/2 mile roll races from 50 mph and 30 mph, at one point impeded by a rabbit that crosses onto the strip and which Mat narrowly misses.

The final comparison they do is a brake test from 100 mph, which the Alfa Romeo wins by a sizeable margin, stopping nearly a full car length sooner than the BMW does in the same test. While the BMW performance sedan ultimately is victorious in more of the comparisons, the still-competitive Alfa Romeo manages to hold its own. Either way, the rarity of the fast versions of both cars are sure to turn heads anywhere in the UK or beyond.
