By Auto Today: Japanese auto giant Honda has unveiled the 2023 Honda Accord sedan with an advanced hybrid-electric system in the USA. Sitting at the top of the 11th-gen Honda Accord line-up, the hybrid variants are expected to contribute almost 50% to the overall volume of the sedan. The Honda Accord is claimed to be the best-selling car in the USA over the last 50 years.

The 2023 Honda Accord features an upright grille and blacked-out LED headlights. The overall length of the sedan has grown 2.8 inches. The hood is longer, while a flowing fastback roofline creates a premium silhouette. The rear has horizontal LED straight-line taillights. The vehicle gets 19-inch alloy wheels. There are eight exterior colour options to choose from.

The cabin of the 2023 Honda Accord is one premium space to be in with the use of high-quality material on touchpoints. Among the prominent bells and whistles are an eight-way powered driver’s seat, 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charger, six-inch head-up display, 12-speaker Bose premium audio system and aluminium pedals.

Built on advanced compatibility engineering (ACE) body structure, the 2023 Honda Accord gets driver, co-driver, side front, knee and rear-passenger side impact airbags. It features the updated Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assistance technologies.

The 2023 Honda Accord employs an all-new and more powerful fourth-generation hybrid-electric system with a pair of electric motors that are now mounted side-by-side and an all-new 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine that adds direct fuel injection. The combined system output is claimed to be 204hp, while the traction-motor peak torque is 335Nm. There is another powertrain option in the form of a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 192hp and 260Nm of peak torque, and is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Honda’s Indian arm, Honda Cars India, sells models like the City e-HEV (hybrid), fifth-gen City, fourth-gen City, Amaze, Jazz and WR-V. Although the company does not have any sport utility vehicle (SUV) in its portfolio at present, it will launch one before the commencement of the festive season in 2023.

While a major contribution to Honda Cars India’s volume comes from sedans, the company does not have any plan of launching the 2023 Honda Accord. Over the last few years, the sedan segment has seen its share decline in the passenger vehicle (PV) market in India. From 14.3% in FY20, its share decreased to 10.2% in FY22.
