Bookings open
Mercedes-Benz has already begun to take bookings for the EQS 580 EV. One can book the luxury electric vehicle for ₹25 lakh.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 580’s India connect
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 will be locally assembled at the premium automaker’s Chakan facility located in Pune, Maharashtra.
All clear from environmental audit
Starting this year, the Mercedes-Benz EQS EV passed an environmental audit that assesses an electric vehicle’s life cycle including the high-voltage battery and the external charging processes during vehicle operation. Apart from developing electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz has also stated to achieve carbon neutrality by 2039.
High five in safety
Last year, the Mercedes-Benz EQS obtained a perfect five in the overall safety rating in a crash test conducted by Euro NCAP. The luxury electric vehicle scored 96 per cent in adult occupant protection and 91 per cent in child occupant protection categories. It also received 76 per cent in the Vulnerable Road Users category and 80 per cent in Safety Assist Category.
Go gaga over OTA
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the first Mercedes-Benz to offer the option of activating completely new vehicle functions via over-the-air updates (OTA) in many areas. The luxury automaker has expanded the range of OTA functions. It also comes with Hey Mercedes voice assistant service.
Fast charging
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 all-wheel-drive electric vehicle comes with a 200 kW DC charging capacity which means that the EV can be recharged for 300 km (WLTP) in 15 minutes at a quick charging station.
Sustainability inside out
Mercedes-Benz has made the EQS EV sustainable on every front. Components of the electric vehicle which weigh more than 80 kg have been created using resource-saving materials such as the cable ducts of the EV have been made with recycled plastics and the floor coverings are made of Econyl recycled yarn. The aluminium for the inner part of the front bonnet of the EV has been certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as sustainably produced.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is a powerful EV
The locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 EV will offer a power output of 523 bhp and a massive torque of 856 Nm. The luxury electric vehicle can touch 100 kmph from absolute stationery in just 4.1 seconds.
All chic and sleek
The luxury electric vehicle, Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, comes with a low-slung profile that gives the EV a boost to its aerodynamic properties. The EV sits on 19-inch alloy wheels and comes with a closed blacked-out front grille accompanied by sharp LED headlamps units on either side of it. The doors of the EV are frameless which provides it with a clean exterior look.
Will Mercedes EQS 580 offer the highest range in India?
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 electric vehicle will feature a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a four-motor set-up. Each axle of the luxury electric vehicle will also get a motor installed. The Mercedes EQS 580 EV promises to deliver a range of around 750 km, making it the highest range provided by any EV in the domestic market. However, in the real world, it is being expected that it might be lesser.
World’s best luxury electric car?
The Mercedes EQS 580, regarded by many as the world’s best luxury electric car, is a big statement of intent from the Germans. The EQS 580 is basically the electric avatar of the S Class sedan, which recently won the World Car of the Year award for best luxury car. It will borrow several luxury features from the ICE variant which will also include the gigantic 56-inch MBUX hyperscreen, which made its debut in India when Mercedes launched the AMG version of the EQS recently.
First Made-in-India luxury electric car
Mercedes-Benz’ decision to locally manufacture the EQS 580 at its facility in Chakan shows the importance the German auto giant attaches to the Indian market. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will roll out the first unit of the locally assembled EQS 580 today at the launch event. The carmaker expects EVs to contribute one-fourth of its overall sales in India within the next five years. Local production would mean that Mercedes will be able to escape steep import duties to keep the price of the EV lower than usual.
