Tuner houses are having a pretty hard time finding ways to bump up the performance of electric vehicles. But that has not stopped famed names from making modern EVs fancier. Brabus who has a long and rich history of making Mercs wilder took on a bold project with the modification package for the EQS sedan. And the result is exactly the opposite of what you would expect from a wild house like Brabus.

The Brabus-specced Mercedes-Benz EQS doesn’t add more power but comes with improved driving range and aerodynamics. That clearly doesn’t sound like Brabus’ doing, but it is what it is. In fact, the German tuner’s previous electrified work with the Porsche Taycan also didn’t get any performance mods.

The Porsche is confined to being cooler in looks, inside-out. But with the EQS, Brabus has taken things further by tweaking the suspension and aero-bits. The sinister looks are a guaranteed bonus. Now it sure seems like a bummer that Brabus isn’t able to spice the performance appeal of the EQS, but their hands are tied here as EVs are quite complex to modify. Otherwise, they would have to be outlaws and hack their way into the car’s electric heart. That will make Mercedes-Benz angry, for sure!

On the flip side, it is reassuring to see tuner houses not stay put and try things differently. While things might look to have hit a wall right now, we are sure that tuner houses will eventually overcome this hurdle and give us madder electric vehicles. But for now, Brabus has taken a mature angle to work on EVs, and we appreciate it.

Brabus known for plonking wild V8s into Mercedes-Benz cars has taken a shocking turn with its version of the all-electric EQS.

Suspension And Aero Tweaks For The Mercedes EQS

The most notable mods that come with the Brabus tag for the Mercedes-Benz EQS are suspension tweaks and aerodynamic improvements. The air suspension has been lowered by 0.6 inches up front and 0.8 inches at the rear for a cooler stance, and more importantly, improved driving dynamics. This has been made possible with Brabus’ very own SportXtra suspension module.

On the aerodynamic front, Brabus gives the EQS sedan a series of carbon fiber exterior body parts that includes a front spoiler with a carbon fiber lip and a rear diffuser and spoiler combo. The wheel arches at the rear also get improved aero appeal with air deflectors.

All of these mods supposedly reduce the EQS’s aerodynamic lift by about 40 percent. And Brabus claims that it also improves the drag coefficient value by 7.2 percent to 0.209. These are incredible changes and that has surely involved a lot of wind tunnel testing.

Not More Power But More Range For The Brabus EQS

This is possibly the first Brabus-tuned Mercedes-Benz without a performance upgrade! The Brabus mod kit for EQS doesn’t fiddle with the powertrain. But because of the extensive aero bits that it gets, Brabus has managed to churn more driving range out of this luxury Merc.

There are no exact numbers but Brabus states that if driven between 60-87 mph, the EQS shows an improvement of seven percent in driving range. This is impressive given the fact that Brabus has just tweaked the aerodynamic efficiency here. Things are sure to get interesting if they manage to dive deeper. In its stock form, the EQS 450+ has an EPA-rated 97 MPGe and does 350 miles on a full charge.

Brabus EQS Looks Sinister; Gets Garlanded With Carbon

All the aero bits that we mentioned above are carved from carbon fiber and add to a cool visual appeal for the EQS. Surprisingly, Brabus has gone subtle with carbon-fiber madness on the EQS. All the stock Merc badges are gone and are replaced with big bold “B”s. The tailgate gets “Brabus” logo stuck on, and that’s about it.

The carbon fiber trimmings go quite well with the black exterior shade. And adding further to the sinister all-black appeal are cool custom wheels that range from 20- to 22-inches. The smaller ones are 10-spoke units whereas the big 22-inchers are monoblocks, as seen in the aero tunnel shot. The monoblocks are sliver but still add to the gangsta appeal.

Subtle Tweaks To The Brabus EQS Interior

Brabus has not fiddled with the interior layout of the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The stock layout can further be customized with a plethora of cool upholstery options from the German tuner house. Unique Brabus additions to the cabin include stainless steel door sills with an illuminated “Brabus” logo.

This logo can color match the ambient lighting of the interior. Other bits include aluminum pedal covers which can also be optioned in carbon fiber. Custom floor protectors and trunk mats made of velour or exquisite leather add to exclusivity and luxury in the EQS by Brabus.


Brabus-tuned Mercedes EQS: Pricing And Availability

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS starts from $102,310 in the US for the base 450+ model and tops out at $125,900 for the 480 4MATIC model. We also have a souped-up AMG EQS that starts from $147,500. Brabus is selling its cool makeover kit for the Merc EQS for €173,890 (~$176,000) and is currently taking in orders as well.
