An investigation is underway Wednesday afternoon into an incident near a construction site in the city’s Seaport District.Sky 5 flew over the scene just after 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Congress and Summer streets where an object fell and crashed through the roof of a silver Toyota Rav4 from a 16-story building which is under construction. “A curtainwall embed measuring 12 inches wide unexpectantly fell from the exterior of our 400 Summer Street project and struck a vehicle,” a Suffolk Construction spokesman said in a statement.The vehicle’s roof was caved in, and the windshield and sunroof were both smashed. Boston EMS confirmed that one person was treated and transported to an area hospital. “While I’m relieved no one was seriously injured today, we’ve had too many recent construction worksite incidents,” Mayor Michelle Wu said. “(Thursday) we are hosting a meeting with unions and construction companies to discuss ways to partner in ensuring work sites are safe and avoid any future incidents.”Suffolk Construction said it was working with OSHA, city officials and trade partners to investigate the cause of the incident.”In an abundance of caution, Suffolk has voluntarily shut down the 400 Summer Street project site to conduct a comprehensive review of the site and the trade partners’ adherence to Suffolk’s strict safety standards,” Suffolk said. Boston Inspectional Services Department issued a stop work order to the 391 Congress St. site manager, and requested a structural engineers report to determine the structural integrity of the building. The site will remain closed until further notice.
