Toyota PH recalls over 3,000 Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX vehicles

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp., a joint venture between the Ty family’s GT Capital and Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp., announced a recall for 3,420 units of the Land Cruiser 300 and 74 units of the Lexus LX 600 to address issues with the automatic transmission Electronic Control Unit (ECU).

TMPC’s First Vice President Bernardino Arevalo disclosed that Lexus units manufactured between December 13, 2021, and December 28, 2023, as well as Land Cruiser units produced between July 21, 2021, and January 12, 2024, are affected.

Arevalo highlighted concerns with the brake clutch disc design, which may cause delays in shifting to neutral, potentially leading to unintended vehicle movement if the foot brake is not applied or the parking brake is not engaged, posing collision risks.

The rectification process will be carried out at no cost to affected owners, who will receive official notification letters from TMPC. Owners are advised to bring their vehicles to authorized Toyota dealers for the necessary reprogramming.

In February, TMPC also recalled 36,930 units of the Avanza and Veloz, as well as 3,378 units of the Yaris Cross. Notices were sent to owners to have the front shock absorbers tightened at authorized dealerships to prevent potential rattling or detachment caused by loose screws. During the tightening process, TMPC will inspect for any missing or damaged parts.
