Mercedes-Benz Defeats Class Action Suit Over Engines for Now

Mercedes-Benz persuaded a federal judge to dismiss a proposed class action against the car company over allegedly defective engines in electric vehicles.

The US District Court for the District of New Jersey on Monday tossed the complaint against the company, concluding the plaintiffs hadn’t plausibly alleged any of their claims.

The lawsuit stems from allegations by car owners and lessees that their Mercedes electric vehicles had engines with a defective cooling function that resulted in “total failure” of the car’s electric driving system “with little or no warning to the driver.” The six named plaintiffs filed suit alleging unjust enrichment, …
