  • The 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-class is one helluva Valentine’s Day gift, especially the Stronger Than Diamonds Edition.
  • Based on the G550, the special edition features Manufaktur Rosewood Grey Mango paint and 0.25-carat diamonds in the door-look pins.
  • Mercedes will only sell 300 examples of the Stronger Than Diamonds Edition, which will likely cost a lot more than the G550’s roughly $144K base price.

It’s Valentine’s Day, and while most people can get away with giving their significant other a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates, being in a relationship with an extremely wealthy person probably means said V-Day gift is a lot more expensive. It might even be a six-figure Mercedes-Benz G-class with a diamond-encrusted interior—or what’s known as the Stronger Than Diamonds Edition. Flowers included separately.

A G-Wagen for V-Day

The Stronger Than Diamonds Edition (we’d use an acronym, but that might send the wrong message) is based on the 2024 G550. It features rose gold paint from Mercedes’ custom Manufaktur program that’s formally called Rosewood Grey Mango. As we mentioned, it also has 0.25-carat diamonds in each of its stainless-steel door-lock pins. If you want to know how much those are worth, you’ll have to ask Jared.

Each special-edition G550 features a unique key fob that will remind that special someone just how special they are with a badge made of genuine silver and a diamond insignia. The diamond theme continues with an embossed logo on the door handles. Pulling on the wonderfully clunky handles reveals a Manufaktur-spec interior with black nappa leather and Rosé contrast stitching. “Stronger Than Diamonds” is branded on the grab handle facing the front-seat passenger as well as on the illuminated door sills.

Mercedes said it will only sell 300 global copies of the G550 Stronger Than Diamonds Edition. While the company didn’t mention the price, we think it’s safe to say that it’ll be considerably more than the standard G-wagon, which starts at just over $144K. That might be how rich folks do Valentine’s Day, but don’t forget flowers or chocolates still go a long way.

His aspiration growing up was to become a millionaire with a Jay Leno–like car collection. Apparently, getting rich is harder than social-media influencers make it seem, so he avoided financial success entirely to become an automotive journalist and drive new cars for a living. After earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him.
