Key Takeaways

  • HotCars digital artist Timothy Adry Emmanuel has created a stunning rendering of a modernized Chevrolet Chevelle, filling the gap in General Motors and Chevrolet’s lineup left by the absence of a muscle car.
  • The new Chevelle rendering features sleek and muscular design cues, with nods to the original car. It has been enlarged and upgraded to match modern standards, with a design that resembles the outgoing generation of the Camaro.
  • The rear of the new Chevelle showcases a sleek and classy tailgate and fascia, with a quad-exhaust setup and a new rear diffuser. The absence of chrome and the use of LED taillights give it a modern touch. The Camaro’s V8 powertrains would be a suitable choice for the new Chevelle.

Currently, General Motors and Chevrolet’s lineup has a hole. That hole is empty because of the absence of a muscle car in the range, thanks to the recent demise of the Camaro. The muscle car icon is no more, as Chevrolet has ended production to focus heavily on electrifying its brand. But the 2024 Ford Mustang shows that muscle still has a place in a manufacturer’s lineup. So what if Chevy were to bring back the muscle car but in a different form?

That is what our exclusive rendering by HotCars digital artist Timothy Adry Emmanuel creates. Emmanuel has brought the Chevrolet Chevelle back to life to plug the hole in the GM range. What he has created is a stunning and modernized version of the Chevy classic that features plenty of callbacks to the original car. But he has also upgraded it to refresh the design for the 21st century. It’s sleek, it’s muscular, and it looks like a great step up from the outgoing generation of the Camaro.

The Chevrolet Chevelle 454 SS is a classic muscle car icon, but these affordable RWD cars offer all the thrills that a Chevelle can – and more.

The Render Enlarges The Chevelle To Suit Modern Standards

Emmanuel has rendered the new Chevelle alongside an old example, which highlights the changes he made. Most noticeable is the enlarging of the modern Chevelle compared to the classic. The new car is bulkier, gaining some width, and looks brawnier and more muscular than its predecessor.

The length and width of the new version don’t look to have changed much, but the stance and bulkiness of it have. These changes bring the design in line with the modern Camaro, which could also suggest the Camaro platform forms the underpinnings of this new Chevelle.

Emmanuel hasn’t just widened the new Chevelle. At the front, we can see ground clearance is much reduced over the original muscle car. A large air dam now fills the gap, which also has an integrated front-lip spoiler and turning vanes to direct the airflow around the car.

Nods to the past are present, such as the angled and pointy design of the fascia below the hood, the headlight arrangement, and the downward slope at the end of the hood. Emmanuel has also replicated the center bulge in the hood of the new Chevelle, exactly as it appears on the original car.

The side of the new muscle car has sleek lines and smooth edges, with the door, in particular showcasing this. Below the doors, Emmanuel has added some altered side skirts to the muscle car. These are angular, and add a little bit of aggression to the otherwise sleek side profile. They contrast the red of the body with their exposed carbon design, which matches the front splitter. The side also shows off the large fenders that sit over the front and rear wheels, creating a widebody stance for the Chevelle.

2024 Chevrolet Chevelle Render Highlights

  • The new 2024 Chevelle render sports bulkier bodywork with widebody front and rear fenders
  • New LED headlights replace those from the original Chevelle
  • The render has sleek lines down the side and a new rear diffuser and front-lip spoiler
  • Nods to the Chevelle’s past are present such as the pointy front fascia and central hood bulge

Looking at the rear of the Chevelle, we see a sleek and very classy tailgate and fascia. The sleek design is similar to the original Chevelle, but that is where the similarities end. There is no chrome on the modernized Chevelle, which is also true of the front fascia. The taillight arrangement is new, with the original four lights replaced by large LEDs. The central section of the tailgate is in black, with the Chevrolet badge displayed in the middle. Below all of that is the new exhaust layout and diffuser.

10 Features Every Gearhead Wants To See In The New Chevelle 70/SS

Trans Am Worldwide fulfills the dreams of most enthusiasts by bringing back the iconic 1970s Chevelle SS.

The muscle car has a quad-exhaust setup, with two outlets on either side, creating an aggressive rear stance. These sit below the new rear diffuser, which flows around the exhausts with small turning vanes at either end.

This new aero arrangement should work in conjunction with the front-lip spoiler to hunker the Chevelle to the ground. Comparing the rear of this render to that of the final generation of Camaro, there is quite a difference. Emmanuel has slimmed down the styling, and his redesign closely resembles a Dodge Challenger and not a Camaro.

The presence of exhaust outlets suggests that this Chevelle will not have electric power. The 2024 Camaro had three powertrains available to it. These were the 3.6-liter V6, the 6.2-liter V8, and the supercharged 6.2-liter under the hood of the Camaro ZL1.

Power outputs range from 335 to 650 hp, and torque from 284-650 lb-ft. The 6.2-liter V8 provides 455 hp, and we would expect Emmanuel this new Chevelle to have some pretty similar engines under the hood. The 3.6-liter V6 is decent in its own right, but the new Chevelle should have at least the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 as its base motor. Then, the supercharged V8 in the ZL1 could go in the top-of-the-line Chevelle SS model.

Remarkably, there is a new Chevrolet Chevelle on the way albeit not as an official Chevy Project. Trans Am Worldwide has been working on a new Chevelle SS, revealed in 2022, which takes heavy inspiration from the Chevelle of the 1970s. Retro styling influenced the design, although there are clear modern refinements such as the square-like appearance and the bulkier proportions. It uses the outgoing Camaro platform and has a 5.7-liter LT1 V8 under the hood.

Those who want more power can get an enhanced 6.5-liter V8 package with 900 hp and a twin-turbo 7.4-liter LS6/X that produces 1,500 hp. While we have this 2024 Chevelle now, there is no confirmation that the official Chevrolet muscle car will return anytime soon.

Chevrolet’s Muscle Car Future Is Unclear

There are no concrete signs that Chevrolet plans to bring the muscle car back. Ford looks set to dominate the muscle car segment, although Dodge is preparing for its all-new and all-electric 2025 Charger. Images of the pre-production 2025 Dodge Charger were recently shared on social media. Rumors persist that a Camaro return would be in the form of an electric SUV. But the electric Charger means we can’t rule out a Camaro muscle car in EV form either.

Chevrolet has hinted at the return of the Camaro name. In 2023, Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet said “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.” If Chevrolet did decide it wanted a muscle car back, then a complete refresh and a return of the Chevelle name might be a great option. If it looks anything like our rendering, we are all for it too.
