Police: Intoxicated man has woman drive after hit-and-run accident
A Clawson man, 38, in his 2021 Mercedes Benz with a Detroit woman, 34, had her drive the vehicle after he crashed into a vehicle and drove away. Both of them were intoxicated, police said.
Police tracked them down after they came upon a man in a vehicle with heavy rear end damage at 13 Mile and Woodward at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 20.
“The victim gave officers a description of the vehicle and the license plate number and told us a man was driving,” said Royal Oak police Lt. Richard Millard.
The driver of the Mercedes fled the accident scene. Police said when officers found and stopped the suspect’s car near 11 Mile and Woodward the woman was behind the wheel.
“After the accident the woman jumped in the driver’s seat,” Millard said. “The Mercedes had damage consistent with the accident.”
The man was arrested for drunken driving and leaving an accident scene. The woman was also arrested for drunken driving.
Suspected porch pirate arrested
A Waterford man, 36, was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop near 11 Mile and Sherman roads with two stolen packages stolen from porches.
Police said there was a crack pipe in open view inside the man’s car and two packages.
One of the packages belonged to a Milford man and contained personal documents and other paperwork.
The second package belonged to a woman in a nearby city and contained items ordered from Lululemon, a woman’s apparel store.
$2,800 worth of items in car stolen outside Planet Fitness
A Bloomfield Hills man, 28, called police after he finished working out at Planet Fitness, 2560 Crooks Road, and discovered someone stole his 2009 Honda Accord.
Inside the car were $2,800 worth of belongings, he told police, including an iPhone, wallet, work backpack, a Shinola watch, laptop computer, prescription eyeglasses and a Carhartt duffle bag.
Police said the man left his car keys in an unlocked locker at Planet Fitness and someone took them to steal his car shortly after 8 p.m. Jan. 18.
Detroit man hospitalized after arrest for drug possession
Police stopped when they saw a man standing in the roadway on Woodward Avenue near Coolidge Highway on Tuesday.
The man, 47, of Detroit had a bag nearby, which he denied was his.
Police said they looked in the bag, which they found belonged to him. Also in the bag was a crack pipe, hypodermic needles and a small amount of cocaine.
Police arrested the man for possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. The man got sick after police put him in a jail cell and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
He was released pending the outcome of tests on the suspected cocaine police said he had.
Man steals champagne from Holiday Market, steals more a week later
An unidentified man twice stole champagne from Holiday Market, 1203 S. Main Street, but got away without being caught.
Police said surveillance video shows the man first stole six bottles of bubbly worth $583 on Jan.13
A week later he returned and stole another half dozen bottles of champagne worth $422.
He is described as about 30 years old and both times was wearing a medical mask and a baseball cap.
