Urgent recall for thousands of Tesla cars

Billionaire Elon Musk is seeking a larger stake in his company Tesla. The world’s richest man owns approximately 13 per cent of the car company. This comes after he sold some of his shares to purchase Twitter. Mr Musk now says he’s uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI and robotics unless he has at least 25 per cent control. He also claims the current system makes the company susceptible to a takeover by people with “dubious interests”.

The recall notice from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts affects all Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured over 2022 and 2023.

There are 4382 cars affected by the issue.

The recall is due to a software issue that causes the steering wheel to become “notchy” in colder temperatures.

However, there is no immediate safety risk.

“The defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle,” the notice states.

Owners of affected vehicles should either contact Tesla to make an appointment to have the vehicle software version inspected and updated.

Alternatively, they can manually update their vehicle’s software using the main screen.

The affected models fetch prices upwards of $A61,900, with some of the Model Y Tesla vehicles going for up to $A92,020.
