What We Think: The Countryman is the largest Mini you can buy, but it’s still small compared to other vehicles in its class. Predictably, the Countryman is not nearly as nimble as other Mini models. Nor is it notably more fun to drive than its competitors. Its base turbocharged three-cylinder engine produces 134 horsepower, which isn’t quite enough to get the Countryman moving with any amount of urgency. Those looking to spend more can also nab the Countryman in more powerful Cooper S, John Cooper Works, and Cooper S E guises, the latter of which is a plug-in hybrid. Still, if you like customization, the Countryman offers dozens of options and accessories to make your vehicle stand out. Judging by how slow the Countryman sells, you can probably get one at a reduced price, though your customization options may be limited if you choose one from existing inventory.
