Apple’s iOS 17.2 Update Fixes Wireless Charging Issues with GM Cars

Apple has released the latest update for its iOS software, version 17.2, which addresses the wireless charging problems experienceddrivers of General Motors (GM) vehicles. The previous iOS 17.1 version caused wireless charging in GM cars to malfunction. Although Apple did not specifically mention GM in the release notes, it acknowledged that the update would resolve “an issue that may prevent wireless charging in certain vehicles.”

The wireless charging issue with GM cars led to frustration among iPhone users, as their devices were unable to charge while driving. GM confirmed the problem and stated that it was investigating the issue. However, at the time, there was no immediate solution available.

With the release of iOS 17.2, affected drivers can now wait for the public version of the update to be released and update their iPhones accordingly. Currently, iOS 17.2 is available as a beta version for developers and the public. The final version is expected to be launched soon.

In addition to addressing the wireless charging problem, iOS 17.2 introduces several other features. The new Journal app, announced at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2023, will be included in the update. iMessage will also receive enhanced security through contact key verification. Users will have the option to disable inline autocorrect predictions, and iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 devices will gain the ability to record spatial video for the Apple Vision Pro headset.

One of the most notable additions in iOS 17.2 is the unlocking of Qi2 wireless charging support for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 devices. This update enables users to enjoy full-speed wireless charging without the need for a specific MagSafe charger.
