Being rich and famous is obviously better than being broke and anonymous, but celebrity is not without its drawbacks. Privacy is something a lot of stars complain about losing in that they can’t even grab a Double-Double at In-N-Out Burger without being mobbed by adoring fans. In other problems we wish we all had, celebs often have more money than they know what to do with. Nicolas Cage blew his cash on a dinosaur skull, a New Orleans crypt, and some islands in the Bahamas, but less excentric stars amass awesome car collections.

From the beginning, automakers recognized the market for upscale luxury cars, with folks of wealth and renown snapping them up as status symbols. Clark Gable was probably the first Hollywood star with a famous car collection, including a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, a Packard Twin-Six convertible, and his beloved Duesenberg Model JN. As the luxury market moved into performance, celebrities like James Dean and Steve McQueen built famous sports car collections, though probably less as flaunting their wealth and more for their shared interest in racing.

Now days, a celebrity car collection is almost an obligatory extension of fame. It’s positively weird for a big star to not have a garage full of exotics and rare collectibles. If Robert Downy Jr. was spotted rolling down Sunset Blvd. in a practical Kia Soul, it would be the kind of TMZ attention no celeb wants. Big stars have expensive cars, but just like fame itself, there are different levels of prestige. Here’s a look at A-list celebrities and their A-plus car collections.

The only non-subjective way to rank car collections is by their worth, but those are unknowable figures that would rely on speculation and estimation. Instead, we’ll go with the hard science of coolness and rank these celebrity collections based on how awesome they are. Some information was sourced from DuPont Registry and CNN.

10 Billie Eilish

“Bad Guy” Singer With Badass Rides

Billie Eilish Car Collection
via Billie Eilish’s Instagram Handle

Pop singer, Billie Eilish, is a female Gen-Zer, which are two demographics not normally associated with having an automotive interest. She also comes off as kind of a Gloomy Gus, while cars are fun, but she’s known for bucking trends and has some seriously killer rides in her collection. Eilish’s first set of wheels was a Mazda 5 minivan to remind her of her humble beginnings, but everything after that is amazing.

Collection Highlights

  • Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
  • McLaren 600LT
  • Koenigsegg Agera RS
  • Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • Chevrolet Suburban

Eilish has a thing for high-end SUVs with both a Land Rover Range Rover Sport and a Chevrolet Suburban in her garage. She really has a groove for supercars, counting a McLaren 600LT and a Koenigsegg Agera RS as her go-to rides. It is however her Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that has most-favored auto status. Eilsih nicknamed the matte black, 707 horsepower muscle car “Dragon,” presumably because it breathes hell-fire.

9 Arnold Schwarzenegger

The Real Musclebound Collection

Stars don’t come any bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger in terms of success, popularity, and muscle mass. Obviously someone of his stature isn’t going to be tooling around in a Mini Cooper, and his car collection reflects his sheer size and power. Arnold is famous for his Hummer collection, but also owns several military vehicles like a Steyr Pinzgauer 6×6 and an M47 Patton Tank.

Collection Highlights

  • Hummer H1 Slant Back
  • Bentley Continental GT Supersports Convertible
  • Bugatti Veyron
  • Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster
  • Custom Kreisel Electric G500

For his civilian fleet, Schwarzenegger has a diverse garage of power and performance. For pure speed, he can take out his Porsche 997 Turbo Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, or kick it American-style in his Dodge Challenger SRT8. Arnold has recently taken an interest in saving the planet by acquiring high-end EVs like a Tesla Roadster, an Audi R8 e-tron concept, and a custom Kreisel Electric G500, which are of course torque-cranking machines like him.

8 Jerry Seinfeld

This Comedian’s Sports Car Collection Is No Joke

1955 Porsche 550 Spyder
Forbes

Jerry Seinfeld’s character on his hit sitcom, Seinfeld, was a Saab guy, but real-life Jerry is Porsche all the way. Well, technically he was a Porsche fanatic, but as CNN reported in 2016, he sold 16 of his Porsches for $22 million, including $5.3 million for his 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder. No worries, as the comedian still has over 100 cars in his collection that stretch beyond German sports cars.

Collection Highlights

  • 1969 Jaguar XKE Series 2 E-Type
  • 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
  • 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing
  • 1964 Aston Martin DB5
  • 1976 Lamborghini Countach

Seinfeld definitely has an eye the classics with one of the more recent models in garage being a 1976 Lamborghini Countach. From there, it’s British classics like his 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII or German classics with a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and 1957 BMW 507 Series II. There is no evidence that Jerry Seinfeld currently owns a Saab, but maybe there’s a chance he kept his 9000 and has it tucked away between his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and 1969 Jaguar XKE Series 2 E-Type

7 Joe Rogan

Octagon Cage-Match Customs

JOE ROGAN’S SICKFISH CUDA 2.0
The Roadster Shop

Joe Rogan is a comedian, actor, and UFC commentator, but he became a mega-star with his podcast, delivering his no-nonsense opinions that resonate with normal people. His car collection, however, is anything but practical or normal, with some of the wildest custom-builds ever. Like Jerry Sienfeld, Rogan digs the Porsches, but his are super-modded like his Sharkwerks Porsche 997 911 GT3 RS and 993 Gunther Werks Porsche 911.

Collection Highlights

  • Sick Fish Plymouth Barracuda
  • Pure Vision Designs 1965 Corvette Stingray
  • Ford Raptor Hennessey VelociRaptor
  • Ford Bronco ICON
  • Sharkwerks Porsche 997 911 GT3 RS

Joe’s collection goes off-road with a sweet resto-mod 1971 Ford Bronco ICON and a scary 600 horsepower 2021 Ford Raptor Hennessey VelociRaptor. It’s the street machines that make Rogan’s collection however and his Pure Vision Designs 1965 Corvette Stingray is a classic Chevy with the power and fury of a C6 ‘Vette. Then there’s his “Sick Fish” 1970 Plymouth Barracuda lowrider with a Mercury engine that is simultaneously offensive and awesome.

6 Shaquille O’Neal

The Big Man Needs Big Cars

Former NBA big man Shaquille O’Neal is 7′ 1″ tall and tips that scale at 325 pounds, so he’s not going to fit into Geo Metro. Thanks to a successful sports and entertainment career, Shaq has the resources to outfit himself with vehicles big enough to accolade his frame and carriage like a custom Ford F-650. It’s his extra-long Polaris Slingshot from West Coast Customs, however, that seems to fit the gentle giant the best.

Collection Highlights

  • Polaris Slingshot
  • Lamborghini Gallardo
  • Vanderhall Venice Roadster
  • Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead
  • Ford F-650

Then there are several rides in Shaq’s collection that seem like an imposibility that he actually fits in them. He towers over his Lamborghini Gallardo, his Dodge Challenger R/T convertible looks like a toy next to the Hall of Famer center, and science simply can’t explain how he squeezes into his Vanderhall Venice Roadster. There is, however, plenty of room in Shaq’s high-end rides like the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead or the custom Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

5 Kevin Hart

A Truly Funny Man With A Serious Collection

At almost two feet shorter than Shaq, comedian Kevin Hart doesn’t have an issue fitting into his cars, but he probably struggles to fit his whole collection in his garage. The top funnyman has rides covering the full spectrum of exotics, customs, and classic American muscle. Starting off, he has four Ferraris, including a 488 GTB, a pair of Mercedes capped by a AMG SLS, and various other European supercars like an Aston Martin Vanquish.

Collection Highlights

  • Ferrari 488 GTB
  • 1970 Plymouth Barracuda
  • 1967 Ford Mustang GT500E
  • 1970 Dodge Charger
  • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

It’s his muscle cars however that really make his collection stick out. Original power isn’t enough for Hart, so all of his rides are custom upgrades like the twin-turbo 1969 Chevy Camaro and his 650-horsepower 1967 Ford Mustang GT500E. Even though he almost died in one, Hart has a soft spot for Mopars with a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, and a 1969 Dodge Charger with a 1,000 horsepower Hellephant engine under the hood.

4 James Hetfield

The Metal Master of Customs

1956 Ford 100 Str* Edge
Peterson Automtive Museum

Metallica frontman, James Hetfield, was instrumental in the evolution of heavy metal music and as it turns, he likes morphing a different kind of metal with his radical custom rod collection. Though he has employed various customizers to make this collection a reality, Hetfield himself has done much of the work, both welding and shaping. Unlike a lot of celebrity rides that rely on paparazzi shots to be seen, Hetfield’s cars are a permanent part of the Peterson Automotive Museum for the world to enjoy.

Collection Highlights

  • 1936 Ford Coupe
  • 1956 Ford F100
  • 1961 Lincoln Continental
  • 1937 Ford Coupe
  • 1937 Lincoln Zephyr

Hetfield isn’t just a musician, but also a music fan and many of his customs are named after his favorite bands. The bare-metal 1936 Ford Coupe is named “Iron Fist” after a song by seminal rockers Motorhead. A 1937 Ford Coupe is dubbed the “Crimson Ghost” which is the mascot for horror-punks The Misfits. He called his 1961 Lincoln Continental, the “Dead Kennedy” after Bay Area punkers The Dead Kennedys. The 1956 Ford F100 is called “Str8 Edge” in a nod to hardcore pioneers Minor Threat, who started the Straight Edge scene.

3 Ralph Lauren

The High-End, High-Fashion Collection

Black Bugatti Type 57
Amalgam Collection / Ralph Lauren

A guy who makes shirts doesn’t usually count as a celebrity, but Ralph Lauren has built a fashion empire, amassing a personal wealth of over $7 billion and is probably one of the most famous people on Earth. For a guy with that kind of money, it’s a given that his car collection is filled with some of the most expensive vehicles ever built. In fact, HotCars estimates Lauren’s collection is worth $600 million.

Collection Highlights

  • 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO
  • 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic
  • 1955 Jaguar XKD
  • 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Mille Miglia
  • McLaren F1 LM

Lauren’s high-end collection includes rare classic as well as European hypercars, but not much in between. He has three different McLarens, including a $20 million F1 LM, which is three more McLarens than most people have ever seen in real life. His top three priciest rides are a 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic worth $40 million, a $40 million 1958 Ferrari 250 Testarossa, and a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that breaks the bank at $48.4 million.

2 John Cena

He Can Lay The Muscle Car Smackdown

John Cena Poses With His 1970 Superbird
@NewsDior/Twitter

Wrestling superstar turned actor, John Cena, would have the top celebrity car collection if it weren’t for Jay Leno, but there’s no shame in coming in second behind the Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky of auto hoarding. Cena has some killer European exotics like a 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and a 2007 Ferrari F430 Spider, but he ranks so high for his ultimate muscle car collection.

Collection Highlights

  • 1970 Plymouth Superbird
  • 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro
  • 1970 AMC Rebel Machine
  • 2017 Ford GT
  • 2006 Dodge Charger SRT-8 Super Bee

Cena has 26 or more muscle cars, and unlike other celebs who go the custom and resto-mod route, has kept them all original. He’s got some cool ones too like a 1970 AMC Rebel Machine, 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, and a 1971 Ford Torino GT. Only 678 Buick GSX cars were ever made and Cena has two of them. Most of all however, Cena is a Mopar freak with a 1966 Dodge Charger 426 and an ultra-rare Hemi 1970 Plymouth Superbird.

1 Jay Leno

The Big Dog Car Collector

Jay Leno in his garage
Jay Leno’s Garage

Hosting the Tonight Show for 20 years is enough of a legacy builder for most folks, but Jay Leno is now actually more famous for his insane car collection. With around 185 cars and over 180 motorcycles housed in his Burbank, California “Big Dog” garage, Leno can literally drive a different vehicle every day of the year and never repeat one. Due to sheer volume, it would probably be easier to list the rides that Leno doesn’t have, but then again, it’s hard to think of something he doesn’t own.

Collection Highlights

  • Shelby Cobra 427
  • 1930 Bentley 27-Litre
  • 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Yenko Stinger
  • 1996 Dodge Viper GTS
  • 1954 Jaguar XK120M

DuPont Registry had the unenviable task of cataloging all of Leno’s cars, and their webpage goes on for weeks. His collection is pretty much a living history automotive museum with entries as obscure as 1906 steam-powered tractor to a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C supercar. The comedian fills in those gaps with every conceivable ride from antiques to classics to muscle cars and beyond. With the most awesome, eclectic, and unusual vehicles, Jay Leno is the Big Dog of celebrity car collectors.
