Investigation launched after vehicle struck by train Sunday night in Lansdale

An investigation has been launched after a vehicle was struck by a SEPTA train on the regional rail line in Lansdale Sunday night.

Crews were dispatched to the rail crossing on East Hancock Street between Church Road and Broad Street at 5:45 p.m. for a report of a train striking a vehicle that was on the tracks. Arriving personnel found a gray Toyota sedan that had been struck by a SEPTA train on the regional rail line.

Dispatch notes from the incident indicate that there were no occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and though units from VMSC Emergency Medical Services were briefly dispatched to the scene, no injuries were reported.

In currently unclear how the vehicle became stopped on the tracks.

Hancock Street was closed for several hours between South Broad Street and Church Road as crews worked to remove the vehicle from the scene and clear the tracks to allow the regional rail line to resume operations. Passengers on other trains reported to North Penn Now that they had to disembark at other area train stations due to the incident.

Lansdale Borough Police Chief Mike Trail said the crash is under investigation, and he anticipates releasing more information later Monday.
